fine, how about Bb4+. develop with check.

i worry about keeping our king available too long for curtains... in general we should be bringing our king to safety before making any forays into his territory, so i am wary to so. anything that expedites the castling process is muy bien.

uhh, how is Be7 any better than Bc5. Bc5 gets the same bishop out into play on a useful square. Be7 does the same thing except it only attacks along a currently useless diagonal.

curtains is undoubtedly going to O-O. why not really develop this piece and then following w/ O-O ourselves?

[/ QUOTE ]

hmm I see your point about the useless diagonal but with Bc5 aren't we leaving it out there undefended? I dunno much but it seems that we wouldn't be gaining much of an attack, and we'd have a loose piece out there

my point is that Bc5 develops the same bishop that Be7 does. the only thing different is that we're moving it 2 squares further.

i said Bb4+ earlier, but i think Bc5 might be better since at least we're controlling a center square there. i guarantee Be7 and Bc5 will both result in 9. O-O O-O

it would be undefended for the time, yes. but keep in mind there is nothing currently attacking that square either, so we're fine. curtains will most likely go 9. O-O, we can play 9. ...O-O. if he develops Be3, we can always protect w/ something like b6 or Qd6

I'm for Be7. Develops a piece to the square where we will likely want it, since I don't see us moving the queen anytime soon, and lets us castle.

I'm not very good either but - it is great that Bc5 would control the long diagonal and hammer at the likely castled position. It is not so great that the piece would be hanging, and not really working with any of our other pieces. Hanging pieces create opportunity for combinative play from our opponents.

Is there anyone following this game that knows how to play the game of chess (how the pieces move) but isn't a chess player? To be honest I think I'm the only one. Anyway, it takes me about 5 minutes to decipher the letters of each move and how it will play out on the board.

Oh well, it's fun to read the strategy and I have Curtains and the under to keep me more interested.

but, there are 2 immediate moves that defend that B if need be. dunno, it seems like the benefits outweigh the risk to me, but again, i'm not exactly a good player either
