Please tell me what is going on when you 3 bet turn call cap and bet river
plz plz plzzzzzzz

[/ QUOTE ]

I check-raised, he 3 bet and I capped. I bet the river.

I did this because that board was very likely to have missed his range completely. He knows I am capable of a turn move and plays back at me with diamonds almost always, sometimes overcards, etc. So I cap, feeling that the timing of his bet was weak. He calls with whatever draw and folds the river. Once I cap the turn, I obviously have to bet the river.

you did this purely based on the timing of his clicks? what if he's playing 8 tables?

[/ QUOTE ]
I do this a lot and I am often correct. It has to do with the size of the pot, ie he will pay attention.

Even an 8 tabler will be focusing on the hand enough after they bet the turn to be making a quick decision after the checkraise.

i play 8 tables and i can tell you that's not true

Josh - what can I say? Newhizzle can tell you I am not making this play very often(obviously, or he would have called). After a zillion hands of online poker, sometimes you get a read and you go with it. I know he's a good player who is capable of strong moves(and detecting [censored]), and I know he also will respect a turn cap. I would never post this in the strategy forum because in a bubble, it's a bad play. At the time it happened, I knew I had better than the perceived 'odds' I would need to make a play like this. In high limit poker, this happens sometimes.

Josh - your analysis is way off.

[ QUOTE ]
with the deuce paired, he's got way too many hands that can 3-bet you safely. any overpair, 88, 55, A8, A2s.

[/ QUOTE ]

Of course, this is a relatively small portion of his range though, no?

[ QUOTE ]
so you're really only going to fold out K high and worse. and really you could've done the same thing on the flop. i know sometimes you need to switch it up and do it on the turn, but i think this is a pretty good blind defense flop, especially since people have somewhat decent standards from the hijack. you might disagree with this part. it's easy for the button to play back. when i get cr on this flop i start thinking gutter, oesd, diamonds, air. but he'll still go away quietly with the K and Q high.

[/ QUOTE ]

RE: opening standards from the hijack. We're talking 97s+, basically any ace, KTo+, Q9s+, etc. This is probably too tight - newsketch has a very broad opening range here. Check-raising the flop is the oldest play in the book. I do it sometimes, to mix it up, but it's seriously old. As far as Q high and K high going quietly into the night - you are probably folding way too much if you think so. This hand should probably be evidence of that.

[ QUOTE ]
back to the turn, i really hate your cap. since there is a wide range of hands he could be 3-betting, him having diamonds (which IMO, he shouldn't have here unless it's not the nut flush draw) becomes small in comparison. you're giving 9-2 on your cap. i just don't see him folding enough

[/ QUOTE ]

He thinks I'm posturing, he can re-posture. It happens in high limit games. I don't recommend that random 2p2ers go out and start bluff-capping turns. Also note that I am getting 9-2 on my cap, and 1/10 times I make a straight that is almost definitely good. I don't expect people to like it, and it's not a play I make very often. It's a rare situation that comes up, but I take EV where I can get it.

I don't know what's worse...OP's hand or the fact that you posted a hand where you played terribly using a read noone else had in a strategy forum. Actually, the following comment is worse than those two combined, especially after everyone responded the way you knew they would respond:

This hand is perfect imo... I don't know why I posted it because I don't want to defend myself. Sorry.
