i kinda want this explained. there are mods who think people are scared to broach subjects about arts & entertainment in OOT?

[/ QUOTE ]

yeah. it's pretty obvious that it's true, because lots of mods are talking about how they want to disucss the subjects but they're afraid to come here.

looking at the first 100 posts in the forum, it doesn't look like a lot of them are entertainment-based, and they're not all ass-wiping polls.

[ QUOTE ]
Sports is a good example to me of why a split is good, IMHO. I'd have probably given up OOT long ago if there was a signifincant component of Sports stuff...

I just want to make a few more points about the argument for a split of 'Entertainment and Arts'

It is pretty disheartening to spend time and effort writing a review, and see it buried under the one-line wonders that fill up the front page very quickly (I'm not moaning about the one-line wonders - that's exactly what OOT is about, and is a major part of its charm). BUT, you just know that people who might have been interested, and contributed to discussion, just never see them. I bet a ton of people who don't bother now would have a lot to say in an E&A forum. And people who would be interested in E&A just wouldn't hang around OOT for just the entertainment stuff.

We've had some good band and film reviews get buried like this, over and over. I personally got fed up with writing them, just to see them disappear, and do them much less frequently than I used to (I think I did something like 1 a day in January - I think I did 2 in total in March), and I've seen people start reviewing, apparently see their efforts get ploughed under, and pretty much give up. I think the only Ents stuff we have going regularly now are Pryor15's reviews, and the OOT Book Club and Film Club. I think it could be way more useful to have this stuff in a separate forum, to encourage reviews, discussions, plot points, Vegas shows (??), specific gigs etc, to better service the less frequent strat visitors to the 'other topics' area, and to better value the posters who take time and effort to give their insights.

Finally, film reviews have drawn a lot of flak from some posters in the past for just being in OOT (it's usually the first reason given when whining about how lame OOT has become), so not only has there been a push to create a separate forum in terms of people wanting it, there's been a push with posters in OOT not wanting it in OOT (subtle difference, but there is one). so not only do Filmies contend with fast disappearance of their stuff, they also face some hostility for their efforts.

Finally, this hase been proposed by a variety of users many times in the past.

To put it more poetically, entertainment is being overshadowed by the rest of OOT, give it some space and light, and it'll blossom into something really good.

[/ QUOTE ]

I see all of this as a good thing, as it means that the quality reviews will be pushed to the top and the the poor-quality ones will be buried more quickly.

And it would be difficult for me to care less if there are people that want to discuss movies, etc. but are too sensitive to come into OOT to do it.

I'm against anything you think is a good idea.

[/ QUOTE ]

ok i think having 100 million dollars is a good idea.

your response is moronic, and it honestly sets back the possibility of other mods taking oot user input seriously. several of them would rather just make decisions because they think it's just a circus in here.

Who are these people, desperate to discuss movies but paralyzed by fear at the prospect of venturing into OOT to do so? I would like to make fun of them.

no, that's really well-supported. it's the trainwrecks, poop threads, etc. and people who value their own input so little that when given the opportunity to speak up, they say crap like, "i will support anything ronald mcdonald does" or "i won't support anything astroglide does." my support isn't even implied here. the reason i asked is because i thought oot itself should have input.

That said, my post stands regardless. I'm against anything you think is a good idea. I'm also against splitting the A&E content to another forum. I also do not think you're a moron. Furthermore, your response is less than suprising.

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you seriously trying to take the moral high ground here with your last sentence? Your original post was essentially, "astro, you suck." It is difficult to phrase your disagreement more provocatively.

I was politely saying I don't respect you as a moderator, without resorting to name-calling. I know that your, and most people's, ability to read between the lines is limited, however. Please don't respond, I won't be reading. /[communication].
