I like Norman Chad a lot, but really, Gabe Kaplan does the same thing WAY better.

[ QUOTE ] - Plan to broadcast in HD for the first time [/ QUOTE ] This is scary. [/ QUOTE ] Please no Magrel, Hellmuth, Men Nyugen or any other players with disturbing moles and unpleasant features at final tables. HD poker is just disturbing. |

I wouldn't mind seeing Gabe and Norman Chad together in the booth. Then again maybe that would be a little too silly.

off topic but im glad they changed this a bit. (sorry if already posted) http://www.cardplayer.com Fri Jun 01 19:14:00 PDT 2007 update [ QUOTE ] Along with the many changes from previous years, the 2007 World Series of Poker is now adopting a much more lenient policy regarding the infamous 'F-bomb.' In years past, the 'F-bomb' has had disastrous consequences for many players, often resulting in a ten minute penalty in which the player's chips are blinded off. This year's policy is much more player friendly, with penalties only administered if "malicious intent" can be established. Directing an 'F-bomb' at another player or the dealer will result in a penalty, but use of the word is no longer strictly off limits. This change is felt to be necessary by many of the players, most notably Matusow. [/ QUOTE ] |

[ QUOTE ] - Some sort of new 3-D graphic that displays holecards, community cards, and players' actions [/ QUOTE ] Hopefully they'll put this up (minus hold cards of course) for the spectators in real time. The overhead cam on the board was a good improvement last year and adding some chip stacks and action might make live poker marginally watchable. [/ QUOTE ] Chip stacks alone will make the coverage 1000% better. I doubt the "new 3-D graphic" will be implemented live, but rather in post production. It is, however, possible and not that difficult. It's basically the same technology as the First-and-Ten line in football. But getting instant "live" data on chip stacks and cards would require some sort of electronic identification of the objects (chips/cards) relayed to the graphics hardware. ESPN's billiards utilizes it, almost all racing coverage utilizes it via transponders, etc. It's probably not too far off though. |

If the chip stacks are a list of 5 people's names and their stack sizes that shows up on the screen for 1.5 seconds before a hand is shown then disappears (like the USPC coverage), it won't help much. I hope that's not the case, but I see it could happen.

Actually I think Norman Chad is pretty damn popular to the average viewer. I know my friends complained when I watched TV poker a lot because of the boring ass commentary on everything but ESPN coverage. He might not ever say anything really groundbreaking strategy wise, but he is entertaining.
