Most people here seem to agree that you can teach nearly anyone to beat the 6.50s for 15% in 8 hours, and since "there is no variance," any breakeven player must have huge leaks in his game.

I'm a breakeven player over 2000 6.50s, having moved down from the 16s where I was 4% for >3000 tournies before the latest catastrophic downswing. Here are the hand histories for 22 tournies. They haven't been carefully selected to prove any point, they're just the last 22 I played. The only thing not typical about them is I didn't bust out the first or second time I pushed, and I actually won some all-ins, so there is a finish distribution of 2/2/4, and you can see how I normally play through all levels.

Feel free to take a look and tell me what I am doing that is so far wrong. If you were using these 22 tournies to teach a new player how to easily beat the 6.50s, what would you tell him to do differently than I'm already doing? What leaks can be fixed that would take me from 0% to 15%?

I'm down for this, I'm at work, will look through when I get a chance. Let me just say a couple things:

1) I think your attitude is great. You have decent sample size and you are willing to not scream "variance/luck/people suck/blah blah"

2) It's possible you were just very unlucky during that period.

How many tables at once have you been playing? Over what period of time have you been playing? (last week, last 10 months, what?)

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, that's the problem. It's easy to yell variance/luck/people suck, but it doesn't make any mathematical sense. Clearly I'm doing something wrong, but I can't tell what.

I've been playing SnGs for 18 months, >7K total. After yet another downswing, I moved down to the 6.50s, where I had about 500 already, at 7%, and have played about 1500 in the past two months. Now I'm about .31% over 2K. The 22 tournies posted were over my last two day period.

I normally play four tables in sets.

Limping with a small pair I'd say is mandatory from any position in early rounds. prefer that to AQ, AK where you have to raise, make a continuation bet and generally put your stack in jepordy.

If you get rasied, call if raise less than 10% of your stack, otherwise fold. Never call vs one opponent if raise is more than 10% of your stack. I think it's mathmatically correct to call at 5% but most folk go to 10%.

10% of effective stack, I'd add. Because if villain raises to 100 having only 400 behind, you can't call even if you have 1500, because you're not getting correct implied odds.

No, not tilty. I actually have a reason for both, maybe not the correct reason, but a reason.

It took me awhile, but I became a firm believer in the gap concept. I'd always rather push than call. In the first hand, he's probably not pushing complete junk here, and with 44, he's almost certainly going to have two overcards. I'd just rather not risk 1/3 of my stack calling at best a coinflip. Later in the game, definitely, but not here.

In the second hand, opposite situation. Even with my pathetic stats for getting called, there's still a 60% chance he'll fold and I get the blinds. If he calls, 65s is not a terrible hand to get caught with.

I didn't have enough hands on either of these guys that a read would make a lot of difference.

OP you have a good attitude. I havent read the HHs but I would ask if you have played 5000+ games. How many tables are you playing at once ?

Maybe cut down ?
