He should not shrug off someone punching out his card because his job could be worse.

Let your boss handle it, don't say another WORD to the gm. If you are like most asst. pros, you work ridiculously long hours for ridiculously little money mostly to the benefit of the head pro (your boss). Let him do what it takes to make it right.
