Well for everyone that knows the band. The Manowar drinking game is fun. Drink whenever they mention "fight", "kill", "die" or "metal".

A German classic is "Meier" which is known as Maxico or Mexican elsewhere I think. Rules on request if unkonwn.

But game theory dictates that optimal strategy is playing for caboose in these games

- Two die and a cup (or whatever you call the thing you put them into)
- You roll and try to get a higher score than the guy before you. You're allowed two rolls if you want.
- You can only look at your first roll. You then pass on the cup to the next guy anouncing your score. You're the only one who saw the score.
- Next guy can challange and look. If he's right and you announced a wrong score -> You drink; he starts a new round
- If he's wrong: He drinks, you start a new round
- Scoring is:31, 32, 41, 42, 43, 51, 52, 53, 54, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 11, 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 21 (lowest to highest).
- If you repeat saying anything while playing -> you drink

The fun is that keeping track of the numbers and all when drunk is kind of complicated. Also you can get others to repeat which is always fun. And there's a fair amount of bluffing.

Well, I reread the rules and they are kind of hard to understand if you don't know the game :P

The most extreme drinking game I ever played was based on this German comedians adoption of we can start a fire:

You can guess the rules :P

Name Game is simple but harder than you would think.

Name a famous person, person to your left says a name that begins with the first letter of that person's surname, e.g. I say Jessica Alba next person says Angelina Jolie next person says Jessica Simpson. If both names begin with the same letter the direction switches, people who are known by one name (Madonna) means the next persons turn is skipped. Sportspeople do not count. Any hesitation or a mistake in the order (not spotting a switch or skip) means you have to drink.

This when combined with 'international drinking' rules (must drink with weak hand, no pointing, not allowed to say 'drink' or numbers, no calling people by their given names; any mistake punished by drinking) is pretty good.

We call this game "Mel Sharples" for some reason, and the first person always has to start with Mel Sharples and go from there

I've played this, and its a blast. We had a few extra rules:

-31 was a reverse, you passed the dice back the other way, and that person had to beat the roll
-32 was a social, everyone drinks and then you roll again
-if you called a 21 (a "mexican") and didn't have it, and got caught, you had 5 drinks. Similarly, if you did have it, the person that doubted you had 5 drinks.

when you start getting drunk, you'll catch peopel saying things like "fourty-six", which isn't even one of the possible numbers, so you can just pick up the cup.

my brother-in-law and I played this heads up one day. it was rough.

Just noticed the 'Bar' part of the title...

I dont think I've ever played a drinking game at a bar, (well except for adding drinking rules to cricket), but I have played LCR at a bar. Seemed strange at first, but then I grew to like it.
Had never heard of it until I moved to Ohio.

I had no idea what LCR was, but it looks like a fancy version of a game we play called "1s, 2s, and 3s are free". Basically you start with 3 quarters, and you roll min(#quarters you have, 3) dice, any 4 goes in the middle, any 5 goes to the left, any 6 goes to the right. and you stop when there's only one person left with quarters. You're not out if you lose all yours, because the people around you can pass them to you.

Another bar dice game I've played is called 456. you roll 5 dice, and you have to get a 4, a 5, and a 6 (in that order). and then you add up the two dice you have left, and that's your score. You get 3 shakes, and if you get a 4, 5, or 6 you can pull them out and not reroll them. But you can't pull out a 6 unless you already have a 4 and 5 out, etc. So if you rolled a 4,5,6,2,1 your score would be 3, and you could pull out the 4, 5 and 6, reroll the last two dice to try for a better score. The highest score wins the pot. If the two highest people tie, everyone reantes and you play again.

I was just thinking of a way to play it with regular dice... glad to see there is a way. This one sounds pretty fun.

This is similar to 24/Midnight/Portugese, but in 24 you have to qualify with a 1 and a 4. The other 4 dice become your score. You roll six dice, and you have to take out at least 1 die each roll. You can pull out your 6s before you qualify if you want though, but if you don't qualify you have to add a buck to the pot.

I love the tie rule though.. everyone is always rooting for the tie at the end!
