Assume three players are locals who freak out when playing short. Assume further that one person is walking at the moment. Now assume that you freak out when short and don't want to play, but you're stuck and you think you might suck at poker.
All that leads to fear of playing short and, at the worst, having your game break. Hence, OPEN SEAT!!!!!!! |

I was playing the 5/10 limit game at foxwoods one night and it dropped down to 5 people. The other 4 players wanted to sit there and fold hands without looking and chop the blinds until more people joined. I definitely made the table break completely.

people shouldnt bitch and moan, but a lot of dealers dont tell the floor for several minutes and the floor themselves are lazy. when youre getting raked the same for 9 players as 7 and its not a percentage, it really eats away at you.

I like an empty seat next to me (for the extra space), but i suppose it is nice to keep the wait times down.
Bigger pet peeve for me is when a guy calls for a new setup whenever he is running badly and the house rules require his indulgence. Recently at a casino in Detroit, one regular who constantly asks for a new setup did it again and a few players took a walk. When the new deck was ready, he and the rest wouldn't play short handed. Killed the game for 15 minutes. |

Damn superstitious morons that blame the cards, the dealer, and everyone but themselves for their dwindling stack. The only time a setup should be requested is if there is possible card marking going on. That is legitimate, but that is about 1% of the time. I don't mind calling the empty seats, as I prefer a full ring game. |

[/ QUOTE ] I wish an early death to every old man that calls for a set up as soon as he starts to run cold. The seat thing only bothers me when the dealer has already called for a player but there is no board, but the player starts freaking out cause the seat has been open for 10 min. I have much bigger pet peeves that this. 1. The old man next to me mumbles or hums for hours straight. (I don't use an Ipod obviously) 2. The old man next to me complaining about the cards he is dealt and tellling me bad beat stories while I'm in a hand. 3. People who listen to music so loud that they can't tell whats going on, and they constantly pull the earpiece out and ask what is going on. I can't even imagine how bad this could get in NL where the bet sizes vary. Ok so I could probably think of more but I'll end the rant here. HASS |

I see your point and agree. However I also feel it's frustrating if the specific card club is very un-organized and/or lazy. They should keep on top of that.

I'll take an "open seat" cop next to me anytime over a guy who's gone a few days without washing his ass or his mouth. That can make for a long, disgusting session.

My major issue with the open seat problem at Foxwoods (it's been a while since I've been there) is after waiting up to four hours for a seat, the last thing I want to see are empty seats, 'cause it makes me wonder if my wait wasn't just made longer by lazy floor staff.
In reality, probably not enough to worry about, but even still, it's like seeing empty tables in a restaurant at the same time they're telling you it's going to be a 45 minute wait. That, and I'd often like a new buffer between me and the grumpy old nit who's constantly berating the dealer and other players because they're interrupting his reading the newspaper. |

Some places, like MGM in vegas will have a basic control panel, and the dealer can simply press a button which alerts the desk of what seats are open at which tables. Obviously most casinos dont have this nice feature.
