I quit 5 years and 2 months ago. Yes, it can be randomly difficult early on, and you will continue to have random intervals of this really odd feeling that you know can be instantly solved by lighting up. It is all on will power to refuse. Yes, it does get easier. I doubt that it ever goes away entirely. The idea that I might actually smoke again is absurd, but there are still rare days, twice a year or so, when I get that really weird feeling that I know you're going through now. There was a response in this thread that said you might have been using weed to self-medicate. This was true for me. Part of the quitting process is learning to deal with your emotions like an adult. These feelings... are normal. Honestly, I doubt they have anything to do with weed, but you and I have been associating that feeling with the knowledge of "I need to smoke now" for years. Understand? Quitting for me was a wake-up experience. It was like I was learning, finally, how to function as an adult. It took at least a year for me to start feeling "normal," and about 3 years to stop thinging of myself as a (reformed) drug addict, first and foremost. [/ QUOTE ]This post is probably going to make me quit. |

Years of self-medication may be a sign that you suffer from depression, as could be your emotional swings. I would talk to a doctor about that if I was you.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree with this somewhat, but the only problem is he'll most likly just give you a prescription for some meds that are probably a lot worse for you then weed. |

I quit smoking weed a little over a year ago. I only smoked two or three times a week, but I suffered a bit when I quit. For me the hard part was when I'd come in from the bars on the weekend. A few times I really really wanted to get stoned.
Even still, every so often, I think about how nice it is to be stoned. The thought that keeps me away though is how slow and dull I felt the next day. My mind wasn't as sharp as it is now. |

So, I am on Day 36 of cold-turkey not smoking. I feel like absolute [censored]. I want to punch everyone I see. Pretty much every little thing is pissing me off big time. I can't concentrate and I feel very depressed. I've been road raging at everyone on the streets. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe you should try smoking in moderation. If you really enjoy smoking weed, you shouldn't force yourself to never do it again. If I was quitting right now, I might gradually try smoking once every other day, then every weekend, and then cut it down to once per week or so whenever you feel like relaxing by yourself or enjoying the company of a few friends. Anyway, good luck and keep us updated. |

When I quit smoking cigs I quit smoking dope too so I know what you are going through. I self-medicated with both and had a lot of problems adjusting to life without these wonderful drugs.
One thing that helped me was to eat tons of brewers yeast. Apparantly brewers yeast is a building block for the chemicals that normally bind to the receptors in your brain where the nicotine and other stuff stuck instead. After a while your body stops making these chemicals (I forget what they are called) and the BY helps you start making them again. I found that I very slowly started to feel better so that six months after I quit I could stand it and then six months after that I was ok and six months after that I felt pretty "normal" again. Good Luck Edit for - serotonin is the chemical I believe. Stimulating endorphin production will help you feel better too I think they bind up similiar to the serotonin in your brain. So think about starting a regular exercise program or if you are feeling [censored] at least run around the block a couple of times. |

You can smoke a quad in one day? You are a god my friend. I heard that Snoop Dogg would go through an ounce a day amongst his posse during his prime.
Seriously though, and I bet all the stoners would agree, you'd lose so much weight/be healthier if you quit. |
