[ QUOTE ]
From TSN : The Vancouver Canucks and Florida Panthers have completed a multi-player trade involving some big names on the eve of the NHL Draft. The Panthers have confirmed that they acquired Todd Bertuzzi, Bryan Allen and Alexander Auld from the Canucks in exchange for Roberto Luongo and Lukas Krajicek. Big news - I like the deal for both sides. Luongo is only an RFA for one more season, and Bertuzzi really won't drag the Panthers' cap situation down since the Panthers won't be good for another three seasons. It's a win-win trade. Also: Rod Brind'Amour signed to 5 year deal worth 18 million dollars. Bad deal - B'A is getting 3 years at 4M and 2 years at 3. Those last two years he will not be worth that money. [/ QUOTE ]WHAT THE [censored]! WHAT THE [censored]! OMG MIKE KEENAN IS CRAZY. Edit: OK honestly we are probably on the Fool's day this can't be true. Luongo is probably the best keeper in the league and Bertuzzi is a loser who only made points because he played with one of the best in the league(Naslund). This is probably the worst trade in the history of Florida hockey. |

McGahee - as someone said, the Rangers will probably be very interested in McKee. Haven't heard of anyone else. Playing for a team that goes deep into the playoffs usually guarantees a 10% salary increase over what the player would normally be worth.
As for Luongo-Bertuzzi: 1: No way a Frolov-Brown package was on the table for Luongo as is. The only way the Kings offer that is if Roberto Luongo is signed long-term before they make the deal (because Frolov is signed long-term, and for a bargain price), and I don't think the Luongo camp is ready to commit to a team - he really wants to test the market. IMO a goalie isn't worth max salary in the new NHL because even though Luongo is terrific, there's 10 or 15 guys who you could have in net, and spending that extra 2 to 4 million dollars a year on Luongo is cash you will miss on the blueline or at forward - it's just not worth it. 2: As I said before, Luongo isn't signed. The Vancouver Canucks have absolutely no interest in retaining Luongo long-term, or so I would hope, since Nonis has been such a penny-pinching GM. Since he will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, he's not going to draw back very much interest in trade. The Florida Panthers were never going to be able to sign him in the off-season, so they may as well get value for him now. 3: On the Bertuzzi side, Bertuzzi is obviously overpaid, but the Panthers don't care because they're not going to spend very much money anyway. He played awful last year but he had to get out of Vancouver. At his best he is a top 10 forward in the game who can do it all, including take stupid penalties. I think he's the most overrated player in the history of the NHL, but perhaps Keenan thinks he can light a fire under him. 4: By the time Bertuzzi's bloated contract runs out, the Panthers will have to sign guys like Bouwmeester and Horton for serious money - they can just let Bert walk. And they also got back Bryan Allen who's an okay 5th defender and Alex Auld who could be a decent starter/backup in the league. Lucas Kraijcek is another future depth defender, so it's basically a lateral move only Allen is 3 years older and he's also slower and more injury-prone. |

Another trade:
Calgary receives Alex Tanguay Colorado receives Jordan Leopold, a 2nd round pick, and a conditional 2nd round pick - I think that's what it was. |

Rumors for the Sharks, POSSIBLY trading Nabby before the no-trade clause kicks in... Looks like Scott Thornton is leaving. [/ QUOTE ] Nabokov's no-trade already kicked in. It's called being owed 20 million. What's the rumor on Thorton? Haven't heard anything about that one. |

I would have done this in a heartbeat, even without Garon. Leafs apparently didn't like what was being asked when a GM (I think) said "It takes two to tango" and traded with BOS instead. Ottawa was rumored to offer Havlat for Toskala, which is just plain retarded. Giving up our star goalie for a 1-year rental? If Havlat would offer to sign for multiple years, it'd be great to bring in Elias too. Doug Wilson doesn't want to pay Scott Thornton what he wants. The man is in awesome shape, but 35 years old. |

[/ QUOTE ] No chance that any of this is true. Frolik, Brown, *and* Garon for Nabokov, a goalie that lost his starting job, has an albatross of a contract, and SJ desperately wants to unload? Absolutely no way that this was offered - not with so many other goalies in a similar situation. If teams who need goalies are willing to wait, the price will just continue to sink. There's no way you could lock up Thornton, Cheechoo, Havlat, and Elias on the same team. Havlat and Elias have a 1% chance of playing together anywhere. |
