bison why do dogs like licking their own asses?
I liked this question better than the response you edited to. 1. It probably feels good in a tactile way. 2. They're so smell oriented that the flood of information is more pleasurable than the stink is bad. |

If you could not reach your ass with anything but your tongue would you lick it? See now we are talking about stuff I know!

Is this the reason why there are fewer "greatest artists/writers in history" that are women? Because the burden of their central reproductive role is so onerous?
Maybe that's why gay or bi women are disproportionately represented in those 'artist/writer' ranks and why women often prefer the young beauty of an almost feminine man looking man like Leonardo Dicaprio or Johnny Depp. |

Bison, two questions:
Can hermit crabs feel pain? While do they like crawling all over each other? I ask because I have some as pets. ![]() Bison he likes you. |

Now I'm trying to picture whether a dog could scratch his ass with his front paw. |

Can hermit crabs feel pain?
2 things define pain - the intensity of it and the memory of it. Hermit craps experience intensity, but have little structural capacity for suffering. Their tools for learning and remembering are so crude that a crab that's been kept alive and treated terribly will only strangely resemble a mammal that's been traumatized. While do they like crawling all over each other? Because the presence of others of their species indicates that it is not a predator-prey situation, and with that fear drive or food drive suppressed, the sensing creature's drive for sensation and information takes over. |

Interesting
[ QUOTE ] Their tools for...remembering are so crude [/ QUOTE ] But if this is true then why do they recoil and go back in their shells when they see anyone coming but me? I know that studies have shown that their memory capacity is weak but I can't explain it. They also will not come out of their shells on hands of my other family members but I am the one who takes care of them and they come out on mine rather easily, which makes me think that they can distinguish different people. |

No clue, and I've wondered this very often. Vehn's response wins the thread though.

They have the tools, but the tools aren't that intricate.
In a creature as concise as a hermit crab we see only the rudiments of the behaviors we recognize in ourselves. But we're so attuned to and gently and sweetly rewarded for social interactions that a hermit crab or even a ficus can be a good pet. Or a spoon collection. |

Smelly,
These crabs of yours are interesting. You buy them in a pet shop or just get them off the beach. Are they hard to keep alive in captivity? Did you name them? How do you know if one dies? bisonbison, If you can't retract your claws why would you paw your ass? How itchy before you lick? I think I'm never licking and would just do the carpet drag move. As far as the op why do non-smokers kiss smokers that is gross also. I have been a smoker and kissed non-smokers and I am now a non-smoker and I would kiss a smoker long before I lick my ass. |
