I'll join in and also say this is a great post. Thanks. I'm sure it's very common for people to overlook their emotional state before playing and it's great you took the time to make a point of this for all of us.

That Bartlett's Book of Quotations was money well spent.

Quality post, Quark. I can relate -- had been playing several hours daily with a sub-optimal BB/100 for the past 2 weeks. I took a couple days off of poker while some friends of mine were in town from Philadelphia over the holiday weekend. Jumped back on the horse yesterday afternoon well-rested & with a clear head...and presto! Up 225 BBs in 1.5 hours.

I play SO much more optimally when not aggravated by work & personal issues it's not even funny. Emotional well-being is highly important, IMO, to being a successful player long term and avoiding tilt short term.

p.s. Quark, do you still live in Wisconsin? I can also relate to your musical musings as a classical/jazz trumpet player.

Quark:

I'm in the Chicago area, but my SO went to UW-Madison, and her parents live up by the Dells. So I'm up there with some frequency. Are you in Madison or elsewhere?

Turd-

I live outside Milwaukee.

We should meet up for a day trip to a casino in the area sometime this summer. PM me if interested.

Quark-

Great post. This is important to all sorts of things. I don't play as much poker as many of ya'll, so this stuff affects the rest of my life more than poker for me, but I think that just makes it *more* important.

Hope Wisconsin cools down a bit for you (I was in Burlington and Madison over the weekend).
