How can you get that feedback, until you've posted an opening number??? How can the market react, until you give them something to react to??? That said, he's not totally without feedback from the market. He's been in Las Vegas all summer, taking bets on baseball. He knows who the bettors like (whether sharp or square), and how much they like 'em. He's got his fingers on the pulse of the betting public. He's not blindly picking a number out of the sky. This ain't some guy on the next barstool. If he typically put up numbers that were "retarded", he would have been fired years ago. My opinion gets a lot of respect in the 2+2 Sports Betting forum. I was even asked to be a featured guest in the Q+A series of threads there called "The Well". The posters in that forum felt that my opinions on the subject of sportsbetting and oddsmaking matter. All that is flattering, but I know I'm not the world's foremost expert on the subject. Fortunately, I happen to be friends with the guy who **IS**. He was kind enough to share his thoughts on this subject with me, and I passed them along here. Hearing some random internet poster dismiss them with remarks like, "That's retarded!" triggers in my imagination the image of a janitor scoffing at an Alan Greenspan speech about the economy, and walking out of the auditorium, muttering, "this guy's an idiot!".
