Made my first trip to the new stadium last night, good time until the top of the 9th. Izzy is entering Rod Beck territory. It is becoming apparent that the double play ball that when through Rolen's legs is a bad omen for the rest of the season. Maybe the Cards can find Timo Perez's old running mate Benny Agbani and excersise the last of the 2000 NLCS deamons.

[ QUOTE ] 1.7 WHIP. As many walks as innings pitched. The guy is flat out DONE. I hope that LaRussa and Duncan pull the plug on this has-been before he does even more damage. [/ QUOTE ] I hope they don't [/ QUOTE ] Nuuuu!!! |

I speak from frustration. I know he was solid in April and May. It's just so scary. It seems like he's ALWAYS walking guys and giving up runs. Just wish he was more automatic.

At least he isn't in Lidge territory right now. Sure he's let a few slip away, but overall he's been able to work through his troubles with success. One of the best pitching coaches in the game will get him in line for the stretch drive.

The guy can't find the plate from 5 feet away, let alone 60ft 6in. The most disturbing thing of all are Izzy's comments saying that he doesn't know what the problem is. |

So his 18 saves were sheer luck that the batter swung at a pitch that had no chance of reaching the plate? The man was perfect in May in terms of save opportunities, has to be throwing some strikes and getting some outs somewhere. As for fixing it. You expect him to know right away what it is? It takes time to figure some things out. Could be a hitch in his motion that is hard to decipher. It's a little early to freak out about it. The guys the Cards have used in that bullpen the last 2.5 years reassure me that Duncan knows what he's doing. I'd be more worried if Izzy was just flat out getting shellacked because his pitches had no movement. At least with the control thing there is some hope of improvement. |

I was at the game..sitting about 4 rows up in left center. But I am a Reds fan and was pretty happy with the outcome. 7-0 today to come within 1. Could be an interesting division race.

The most reassuring thing about tonights game from the standpoint of the Red's fan is the third straight very good start from Milton. 3 SPs performing at above average levels in Cincy is unheard of. This may end up being an interesting race after all.
