[ QUOTE ]
If schilling, beckett, and wakefield went down...and then Manny went on the DL, and JD had a bum back, and then Veritek got injured. [/ QUOTE ] This would be much worse for the Sox than what happened to the Yanks IMHO. Schilling / Beckett / Wake projects to be better than Moose/Wang/Pavano and Ramirez is much more important to the Sox than Matsui to the Yanks. Drew is projected to outperform Damon as well. Tek is worse than Posada. The two teams are built very differently, and the dropoff the Sox would experience in VORP would probably be a good bit bigger. Also the Sox don't have as strong of a lineup as the Yanks so losing their #2 and #3 producers would hurt more. (and anyway for the yanks, they lost like their fifth and sixth best bats, right? i mean abreu, jeter, a-rod and giambi are all more productive than damon/matsui). |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I think the thing you miss when you look at the Sox winning three close games is that there was a lot of luck in it not being a lot worse. [/ QUOTE ] I think the Sox were damn lucky that Pedroia makes a circus catch in the 8th last night. [/ QUOTE ] And the Yanks were lucky that Ortiz and Ramirez both missed hangers that could have been crushed with two on in the first. I mean christ, Manny homers in the first rather than the third, nothing really changes except the Sox get two more runs. The Yankees bunched their hits together better which is mostly luck. [/ QUOTE ] you dont understand the point about sample size. the point is that yes, all those things could have easily gone wrong for the yankees and they did got lucky, but even if that did happen the results still wouldnt have been significant. people are trying way too hard to draw conclusions from this series, especially considering that many of the injured players will be back very soon. [/ QUOTE ] There was no point about sample size being made in any of the posts you quoted. They were close games, fun and exciting games. All they mean is the Sox win the first round. |

whats up with lowell's defense? its not even the errors, he isn't turning hits into outs anymore. seems like he's bobbling everything. |

For the love of God and how much I am disappionted in Crisp, but please, oh please, get Silly Mo out of the lineup before he makes a mockery of the CF position. Half his ABs are SOs anyway, Crisp can do that easily.

pena isnt as bad in CF as most think. everything he does looks awkward...but thats because hes the size of a linebacker. he covers a good amount of ground.
doesnt matter though...hes not smooth and strikes out a lot...he will never be well recieved until he can be given 400AB's and put up 30 HR's and a +800 OPS. |

[/ QUOTE ] Before Crisp rebounded a little last week, the yahoos calling WEEI were clamoring for him to take over CF and were insisting he would be fine. I don't think there is a defensive postion he can play that would not be a disaster for long stretches. His future imo is DH but of course we got one of those. Also, he's not a good pinch hitter, he needs at bats to get into a groove. I think the Sox will move him when they are looking to fill whatever gap they need to fill at the trading deadline. |

[/ QUOTE ] i know the stats say he's a better cf'er than rf'er (which isn't hard), but i still don't buy him being "good". there's just no way. maybe its sample size issues, but i cant remember seeing him do anything that crisp couldnt have done. he's a butcher, and needs to be a dh. |
