Brag: I met Oliver Stone tonight.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oliver Stone is the epitome of everything that is wrong with the baby boomer generation. He's self-centered, egotistical, and convinced that everything that ever happened in his lifetime is of paramount importance to the rest of the world. They think the universe revolves around them, and they insist on clinging to every trivial detail of their existences as though nothing could be more significant. OK, so the Doors were a nifty band that had some fun music. Do we REALLY need a three hour movie about them? Yeah, JFK died -- bummer. Did the world truly end because of it? Are we never allowed to forget the profound tragedy that was your stupid little Vietnam War, despite the fact that more people die in freakin' car accidents every year than in the entire decade-long conflict? They're all about peace, love, and harmony until it's the NEXT generation that's going to die, and then it's FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT. I don't see any boomers writing whiny protest songs about Iraq....Did war suddenly become less important now that it's not your asses on the line? Saving the earth was the most important thing there was, right up until they needed to drive their stuck up brats to soccer practice in their new H2s. Fighting against the corruption in the government was worth sacrificing everything for until they became the corrupt politicians themselves; then it didn't seem nearly as important. Free love rules when it's you doing the screwing, but when it's your college-age daughter, all bets are off. Don't trust anybody over 30 until WE'RE over 30. Fight the power until you become the power, then tell your kids to shut up and keep paying social security taxes so we can ride on your backs all the way to the grave.

Eff the boomers. Eff Oliver Stone.

(Sorry -- residual bitterness in stream-of-consciousness mode because my life sucks right now.)

I don't like him much either, mainly because I have to watch all his movies for this class and they're really long. Without knowing much about anything I'd guess Pokey is accurate here.

Oh, I did think Platoon was really good. I mean, he's obviously a talented filmmaker and I think it's kinda cool that he made the new 9/11 movie without politics/conspiracy stuff. But I'm really no expert on this stuff.
