[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Why is it more "advanced" not to eat animals? "Advancing beyond our natural instincts" isn't a reason. You still haven't given a good reason not to. [/ QUOTE ] Here is the thing peope are missing: NEARLY ALL MORALITY IS SUBJECTIVE If paluka, or anyone else, feels it is morally wrong to eat meat, he is allowed to think that. Just like I am allowed to have no moral problems with it. Neither of us need to necessarily give reasons for those moral beliefs, nor are those beliefs the business of anyone else. The only time morality becomes the business of others is when those morals are affecting others (ie. rapists, racists, etc.) [/ QUOTE ] Sure, people can believe whatever they want. But they don't get a free pass to some sort of moral high ground without providing some sort of reasoning for their morality. And the morality of vegetarians presupposes a level of equivalence between humans and animals. "Cruelty" is a human concept, but vegetarians want to apply it to non-sentient beings like cows and chickens. I do not believe there is any sort of moral equivalence between humans and animals, so I don't agree with their morality arguments. But they can believe them if they want to. As for me, I'm going to go have some fried chicken. |

Sha,
Today I had a fire roasted cured pork loin sandwich. I am going to make that sandwich this weekend and add some bacon. |

a) Vegetarianism as practiced by most vegie's is nonsensical from any health perspective. It's just mental illness.
b) It's incredibly rude to not alert someone ahead of time that the menu is going to be bizarre by normal people's standards. |

Paluka,
I think some iron in your diet would make you less sensitive. |

They would just rather not kill animals than kill animals. I don't think this is a tough concept. I show you a cute bunny. I ask you if you'd rather kill it, or eat a PBJ with the crusts cut off instead. You say "gimme the sandwich". Now just extend that same concept to ugly, filthy animals like cows and that I what I do. |

[ QUOTE ] Vegetarians - if you have kids, are you raising them in a strictly vegetarian household, or cooking meat on occasion for them / allowing them to eat it outside of the home? -Al [/ QUOTE ] We are raising our child vegetarian. [/ QUOTE ] Was this a given for you and your wife or did you consider letting him have meat? Will you allow him to if he wants once he meets other kids and sees them eating roast beef or whatever? |

[/ QUOTE ] This was a given. If he wants to eat meat later in life I'm not going to stop him. I plan on being honest with him about my reasons for being vegetarian and the inherent hypocrisies of my lifestyle. |

Unless he was my rabbit, or a friend's rabbit--in the brotherhood sense I mean, because no one "owns" a rabbit. |

I assume your part about inherent hypocrisies was too, but just checking. |
