[ QUOTE ]
that pitcher of the big hurt is kinda irritating. We can all use that in our meditation practice. what is it about that pitcher that causes us to be upset. At a fundamental level, it is a sight object, impermanent, not worth clinging too. Yet our habitual reactions and attachment cause us to get carried away, we attach significance to that picture based on our past conditions, our karma. it will all fade. fade like the yankees of last century. fade like a 3-0 series lead, fade like a-rod in October. [/ QUOTE ] I know people pronounce it pitcher, I just didn't think people spelled it that way too. Neat. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I don't know. One team(Sox) are limping to the finish line and the other(Yankees) are cruising. [/ QUOTE ] There's really no evidence of this having an effect on playoff results(besides injuries). [/ QUOTE ] It doesn't hurt. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe it does, thats exactly the point. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] how would anyone know how he feels better than himself? [/ QUOTE ] Because he has a track record of being a malingerer. [/ QUOTE ] Way to answer his question. As much as people give evidence that Manny is lazy (and he is a lot of the time), there is a lot of evidence that points to how hard he works as well (like his batting career). I doubt he is 'faking it' in order to not play. Currently there is no reason that he should 'push' himself or rush back. craig [/ QUOTE ] I didn't dodge his question at all but if you need me to I'll spell it out. Under normal circumstances, you would take a players word for it that he was still hurting. But if he has a history of faking it, you have to be skeptical. I'm skeptical. And to answer your question as to what could his possible motivation be? Who knows, no one has been ever been able to figure out what makes Manny tick. |

I don't know. One team(Sox) are limping to the finish line and the other(Yankees) are cruising. [/ QUOTE ] How are they limping to the finish line? They have the best record in MLB. And during the NYY amazing, and almost unprecedented run, they have had the second best record in the AL since the ASB (3rd in MLB). AND, depending on which stats you use, they have underperformed by around 4 games (as have NYY) (both CLE and ANA are over performing). craig btw: though I quoted Toro, this wasn't really to him. It is just annoying to see all these Cub fans acting like THIS BOS team cannot win the WS. They have done nothing but win all season. |

Well they are only 5-5 in their last 10 and lost the last 5 of 6 to the Yankees so they are not exactly cruising.
Hey, I'm hoping I'm dead wrong. |

Question: If Joe Torre were currently managing the Red Sox, would he rush Manny back into the lineup (to whatever extent that would be possible)? [/ QUOTE ] Ehhh, I am sure Torre knows winning the division vs. wild card isn't that big of a deal. If they were fighting for one spot, he might. Even if NYY or BOS is on the road for the ALDS, it isn't that bad for either team. ANA in 2004 almost seemed like neutral turf, until ANA fell behind and their fans had to beat traffic. craig |

[ QUOTE ] Of course the Red Sox *could* win a 7-game series agianst anyone in baseball, but you can't really think they'd be a favorite over the Yankees in a 7-gamer right now, can you? [/ QUOTE ] If everyone's healthy, and Boston has home-ice, then I'd certainly make Boston the favorite in a seven-game series. Not a big favorite by any means. I'd probably open it at -120 and EV. It would be higher, if the public wasn't so fond of the legend of the NY Yankees. (That's not the Sox Fan in me talking, but the old school oddsmaker.) [/ QUOTE ] Maybe it was the Sox Fan in me. I asked the sharpest oddsmaker in Las Vegas what he would make the price on an ALCS between NYY and BOS, assuming all players were healthy, and BOS had home-ice. He said simply, "Yankees -155". Like I said, he's the sharpest guy in the business. I'd give his opinion about 10x the weight that I would give my own. Please disregard my "BOS -120" pipedream. (But if the price comes that high, I'm putting my money where my mouth is, and backing my opinion with cash.) |
