In a league that counts total bases and OBP instead of AVG, who's a better 2B, Marcus Giles or Jorge Cantu? [/ QUOTE ] probably giles just because he is guaranteed a job unless he is awful. |

[ QUOTE ] This is my first year playing fantasy baseball for $$$. I'm in a 10 team H2H league. Stats are H, HR, RBI, AVG, W, SV, ERA, K, WHIP. What sort of strategy should I be looking at? Do pitchers have less value in the format? Go offense crazy? [/ QUOTE ] no, in a 4x5 pitchers will have more value than in a 5x5, which is what most rankings are based on. [ QUOTE ] Also I have pick 9 and pick 6 wants to swap. No brainer right? [/ QUOTE ] yes [/ QUOTE ] Whoops! I forgot to put SB's. It's 5x5 H2H. Anyway I swapped picks with #6 and this was my draft. 10 teams 1. (6) Álex Rodríguez 2. (15) Lance Berkman 3. (26) Matt Holliday 4. (35) Vernon Wells 5. (46) Rafael Furcal 6. (55) Johnny Damon 7. (201) Russell Martin C [/ QUOTE ] manny and tejada are better in this setup with the emphasis on OPS guys. i don't like the damon, baldelli, and rios picks for that reason; speed guys are downgraded a lot here. pitching staff looks very good, but i think cain was a big reach and cost you a shot at a good hitter. 10 team 5x5 H2H w/ OBP instead of AVG.
Auction draft, $258 to spend (I had a 12 dollar penalty associated with cutting players from last year, I made some draft mistakes last year). The league is together for 2 more years after this season, and we can keep as many newly drafted players as we like for 1, 2 or 3 years with no inflation. To the right in parenthesis are the player's "salary" and if they have been signed to a multi-year contract, their contract's length. The dash indicates a player whose contract length is undecided. This may be asking too much and/or beyond your comfort level, but assuming you could keep any of the unsigned players below for 1, 2 or 3 years, who would you keep? FWIW there is a penalty of 1/3rd of the contracts value, rounded up, for a player signed to a multiyear deal who is cut for each year of their deal. We have an extended DL if a keeper suffers a big injury (like TJ surgery and will miss most of the year) that allows us to free up their salary for use on other players, so there isn't much risk to a big money keeper suffering an injury. C: R.Martin (3) - 1B: M.Teixera (30) - 2b: O.Hudson (1) - SS: J.Reyes (21) 3 years 3B: M.Cab (29) - MI: S.Drew (7) - CI: P.Fielder (7) 3 years OF: A.Dunn (23) 3 years OF: B. Giles (4) - OF: C.Young (8) - OF: C.Hart (1) - OF: C.Granderson (4) - Util: T.Helton (10) - Bench: R.Sexson (14) 2 years (my keeper mistake from last year) Bench: C.Tracy (1) - Bench: N.Markakis (8) - SP: J.Santana (32) - SP: F Hernandez (16) - SP: I. Snell (5) - SP: N.Robertson (1) - SP: R.Clemens (1) - SP: P.Hughes (6) - RP: B.J. Ryan (15) 3 years RP: J.Zumaya (5) - RP: S.Torres (1) - Bench: N. Lowry (1)- We also have 2 "prospect" slots that count against the cap Prospect: C.Maybin (1) - Prospect: B. Wood (3) - I spent all the loot I had. I am pretty happy with my offense but think my starting pitching is a little thin on the back end. I'll hurt a bit early but think I'll be OK when the playoffs arrives as Hughes should be up and Clemens (hopefully) will have returned. We can't truly stream (we have weekly bidding on waiver wire free agents, rosters are locked at the start of the week), but I'd imagine I can find an improvement over Lowry and/or Robertson. I overpaid a bit for Nick.M but still think he is a long term value. He's my favorite player and this stuff has to be a little fun too. I am planning on signing these guys to 3 year deals: R.Martin ($3), S.Drew ($7), Markakis ($8), C.Young OF ($8), Granderson ($4), Hart ($1), Tracy ($1), Snell ($5), Hughes ($6), Maybin ($1) and Wood ($3). I am leaning towards keeping MCab ($29) and Felix ($16) for 3 more years at that price. Teixera ($30) and Santana ($32) are my uncertainties, but I'm tempted to lock them up for three more years. In an ideal world I'd trade Helton or more of a longshot, Sexson, for a stud starter. Any comments on my plans, my draft, other ideas or comments about my team are greatly appreciated. Thanks, J.R. |
