Not sure if this is obscure or not, but lots of people I know with otherwise great taste haven't seen it

I'm not sure if it qualifies as obscure by the standards of this thread or not, but I didn't see anyone mention the most underrated movie of all time:
Grosse Point Blank (1997) |

[ QUOTE ]
Series 7: The Contender Six ordinary Americans are chosen at random to participate in a "reality-based" TV show where contestants must kill or be killed. The winner gains his/her freedom if they survive. The reigning champion, Dawn Lagarto, is eight months pregnant. Brutal. And, the entire "film" was shot as if it were a reality-TV show with icons, graphic lay-overs, and spots for commercial breaks. Have enough "suspension of disbelief" or show it to an unwitting person, and it is easy to mistake it for an actual reality TV show. As a side, this was pitched the major networks as an actual show to see how far they would go. The responses came back as highly positive, but asking for more sex and less violence (from DVD extras). Fairly obscure, and worth a watch. [/ QUOTE ] sounds like a remake of battle royale |

Killer Klowns from Outer Space
ah, the classics... It's ridiculous, but I really did enjoy this movie. In all seriousness though, thank you all for your suggestions. I have added about 20 flicks to my Blockbuster queue from this thread. I have already watched Primer and Following and enjoyed them both. |

I can't say I get all the Oldboy love. Sweet premise, and intense, but beyond that I didn't find it all that satisfying. It also seemed like a fairly gratuitous exercise in shock, in places, kinda like a somewhat gentler Miike film (which from the little I've seen I'm not a big fan of either.) [/ QUOTE ] |

[ QUOTE ]
"Ghost Dog- Forest Whitaker as an inner city Samurai hit man, up against the Public Enemy spouting mob. His best friend is a Haitian ice cream vendor and neither of them speaks the other's language. It works well." Ghost Dog was horrible, unwatchable. I am a jim jarmusch fan, but I wouldn't say any of his movies are MUST SEE, since not everyone really enjoys them at all. [/ QUOTE ] The first time I saw it I thought it was terrible. The sound track was very distracting, and over-all I thought a better title would have been "Fat Samuri." But I watched it a couple more times, and eventually came to think it was great. Basically I just had to get used to the music, and after that happened, I really enjoyed the movie. But still affectionately think of it as "Fat Samuri." |

Santa Sangre (1989) by Alejandro Jodorowsky.
I've always felt that a TV does not do it justice, but maybe I'm prejudiced because I saw it first on the big screen. Best film ever, man. The first time I saw it, it was so unlike any other film I'd ever seen, I could not process what I was seeing, and simply enjoyed it as a mishmash of beautiful imagery. But I loved what I saw, so I watched it again, and the second time around I picked up on the plot. |
