Kurosh,
Your trip reports are getting close to making me wish I was still in LA instead of on a beach in Costa Rica. Keep it up. -Shant |

Wow, great thread. I wish I had the stones to take shots at high limits like that.

My favorite part of meeting Kurosh was recognizing him from his silly party poker picture. He didn't have the beanie on and I was disappointed.

I think Kurosh should wear that beanie everywhere he goes for easier and quicker 2+2'er recognition.
I also think that wearing the beanie would be +EV in just about any live game (this is up to and including the $4k/$8k.... but it might only be even EV if one finds themselves playing $50k/$100k HU with Andy Beal) |

Sunday I spent mostly with my uncle. He had to stop by his work for a bit. I started talking to one of his employees and he ends up having played poker for the past fifteen years in this area. He says he's friends with Amir Vahedi, Norman Chad, Sammy Farha, etc. He used to spend every day in casinos playing high limits. I talk to him for about half an hour and at the end, he says he will try to set up a home game for me with Amir and some other people so I can come meet them. Unfortunately, I had to leave in two days, so there wasn't any time. For those of you wondering why a random guy would do this for me, it's because we're all Iranian, my uncle is his boss and he probably sees a little of himself in me. He talks to me about how one day he woke up and realized he had wasted his life in a casino. He says the best poker players in the world are all gamblers and perpetually broke. He really made me reconsider what I'm doing. I don't know. Talking to someone who has done this for fifteen years and is saying he regrets wasting that much time makes me sad. I've had a great time the past few days playing in the casino. I've made 12k. But I could easily lose it all in a day, then what do I have? All that time, sitting in a casino, for nothing. It's a waste of life. I need to think about it more.
It pisses me off how abusive the players are to the dealers. They treat them like servants that should do everything perfectly and to their exact specifications all the time. A dealer wouldn't finish dealing until someone posted their BB, like she is supposed to, and half the table starts berating her. She says she got reprimanded for doing it last time and can't do it again. Every time some [censored] like this happens, I feel bad and tip them a bit extra at the end of their down, $10 or so. Seriously, get some [censored] class. It's a hundred times worse at the higher limits too, which I don't understand. You'd think they would be more professional. Saturday, I walk into the commerce and I see a tall white guy with a buzzed haircut wearing a jacket. On the back of that jacket it says "Neverwin." ... ... ... By the time I realize what lady luck has placed in my lap today, he is gone. He left a second after I walked in. I don't know if I would have punched him in the face or challenged him to a HU rematch. Tongni later tells me that apparently there is a fanclub and lots of people have that jacket. Wow. Ok, the punch in the face sounds good. I play some 1/2 with flawless and Ryno, but it's a [censored] game so I go play 40/80 and 60/120. I play a few sessions throughout the day. Overall on the trip, I am up 12k. I FINALLY convince Ryan and Tongni to come to the Spearmint Rhino with me, but first, we must pregame. At 1:30AM, we look it up online. It closes at 2AM. Grrrrrr, no Spearmint Rhino for me [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] . All the strip clubs close at 2AM on Sunday. Also, Tongni and Silkyslim are drunken idiots. I just had to clean crayon swastikas off the walls. I'm not sure how it came up, but blackjack was brought up. I researched the game I played on the first day and apparently it can be beat. I was a fish the first time, not this time. I am going back to beat the [censored] no-bust california blackjack. I want my $600 back. Not counting rake and if you play optimally, the player has a .56% edge. With rake, the house has a .44% edge. Players have an opportunity to become the bank every two hands. There's no way everyone is going to play optimally. If I follow my chart and be the bank as often as I can, it will be very +EV for me. There is one seat open at a table full of asians. I watch them play a hand or two and they are all playing incorrectly. I play my two hands and lose both (note that's eight hands in a row I've lost.) Anyway, I then become the bank for two hands and win a bit. The dealer then asks the other players if anyone wants to be the bank. None of them do. Nice. Two hands later I am the bank again. Dealer gets a joker and I bust two of the players. Next hand I bust the other two. Yes, that's right, I broke the blackjack table. I want to play more but the only other table is full and I'm impatient. My total profit off it tonight was $200 since I kept losing the hands I bet. Well, my flight leaves in a few hours. I'm pretty damn tired. I don't know if I will go back to commerce or take a nap until then. I had an amazing time. I think I'll be back soon. |

[/ QUOTE ] Thanks Kurosh, it pisses me off too. I'd figure high stakes players would be generous tippers and polite professional but it's the total opposite and it sucks. Thanks for extra tokes. In fact, just because of that I hope you bad beat everyone at the 4k-8k game. |

You just made 12k but keep thinking about the 600 bucks lost on bj. I'm glad you at least made 200 of it back. Thanks for the report Kurosh. Those of us with normal lives in normal places appreciate the insight on how the other, more exciting half lives. Good luck to you. |
