<20M shares a day sounds like his firm is looking for arbitrage opportunities. [/ QUOTE ] wouldn't it not make sense for that to be the case given the high returns in conjunction with the large # of shares traded? but then again, "looking for" and "finding" are different animals. then AGAIN, they seem to be "finding" quite a bit now dont they but wikipedia, as pointed out, may not be accurate in their fact finding here and his fund is quite private so accurate data here is probably hard to come by. kind of a hard to tell wtf is going on sorta thing...id love to get my hands on his transactions and return schedule. noob question: are these jobs available only on wall street? [/ QUOTE ] maybe 80% of them (in the US). San Fran, Chicago, and Boston have smaller bases for capital markets jobs but most training programs and such are out of NYC. |

You guys are confusing i-bankers hours with traders' hours. Traders get in around 6:30am (5am-ish for FOREX) and leave around 6:30-8pm. NO WEEKENDS (at least not usually).
Also, the STANDARD associate salary, sans bonus, is $120k anywhere on the Street. This is a fact. |

DcifrThs- are you in a similar field that strass is going into? i should know this, but im blanking out right now. [/ QUOTE ] im interviewing in a similar field and i interviewed at JPMorgan. they filled their class w/ interns from the previous summer and scheduled recruits (i was interviewing for hedge fund IB and structured credit last month). im currently interviewing at a hedge fund whose culture seems perfect for my abilities and from what i've heard, and from those with whom i've spoken there, it would be an offer i would not turn down. i should know definitively within the next 2 weeks (the recuiting associate has gotten back to me extremely quickly on all accts.) this hedge fund is one i got into from 2p2 contacts so dont hesitate to ask your friends (not you mike, but in general). short asnwer: yes im in a similar field. but im in the research wing, not trading/execution. I really doubt there's that volume of daily arb available in equities and equity derivatives that are wider than bid/offer. Maybe Stox can say something more definitive. |

la,
"the best book i've ever read." You need to read more books. It was OK and I enjoyed it (and recommend it), but definitely not a great book by any means. |

I don't know much about Wall Street at all. But I do know that Mason's post was good, and wish you the best of luck with your job.
Now I can be jealous of you in the professional world, instead of just the poker world too! |
