From the posts Ive seen, aaron you could quickly move to any level you deem fit. I think you are boxing in the potential that you have for poker by limiting yourself.

Aaron, I'm currently doing the same goal as you... starting at 0.50/1 6-max and making my way up. However, I've been working under the assumption that I'll move up after 300BB of the next level. I'm gonna be doing it for a while I suppose. I started with 200BB of 0.50/1 and plan on moving up when I get to 600BB. I'm currently at 350BB after 6k hands, so halfway through.

LOL point taken, but I do think that the only way to really improve, is to push yourself to the limits. Muscles get stronger by pushing them to their max, your skill is no different. You can never really get better unless you push yourself.

Going for the full 300 is too much grinding for me. By needing to earn only 100 BB at each level, I figure that even a very modest 2 BB/100 winrate will get me to the next level in 5000 hands, which at 75 hands/hour at two tables is a mere 35 hours. This is significantly less than the number of hours I put in at one level of one table full ring. Of course, if I'm blowing the game away at the unsustainable 24 BB/100 pace...

I have a lot to learn about 6-max, so I'm comfortable with the grind. After adjusting, I'm winning for 4.5BB/100, but who knows if it's sustainable at this point.

it will be... it's 0.50/1 at the moment. I cashed out my roll and only left $200 at PS.
