50 cents a pop turns 100NL from being a huge source of free money into an almost unbeatable game.

And I was just about to start playing that game. Oh well.

Here is an email template with excerpts from this thread:

You can use any or all parts:

Dear Party Poker (Hopefully someone who doesn't give a generic
computer-generated response and thinks logically):

What are you thinking with these 'monster' tables? You are going to have ALOT of
high volume players leaving your site permanently if this isn't resolved. You
take the 50 cents REGARDLESS OF LIMITS. This is truly a horrible thing to do at
lower stakes.

NL100 and 200 players are effected very heavily by this promotion. The
increased rake has been calculated to reduce a player's winrate by 30% or more
at this limit.

This promotion, to me, seems like a thinly veiled attempt to generate more rake
per hand and in no way benefits the overall poker community. I realize that this
"clever" business approach will go unnoticed by most of your clientele, but it
will affect all of us every day poker players that do generate a large portion
of your company's revenue.

Please provide me with some sort of genuine comfort--I've already read all the
Monster Material and am quite aware of you Tell-a-friend bonuses.

In case any of your support team can't perform any calculations, I will break it
down for you:
Winrate drops for

200nl 6max -1.44ptbb/100 = 28% paycut for 5ptbb/100 winners
400nl 6max -0.62ptbb/100 = 12% paycut for 5ptbb/100 winners

that's using
($0.50 * %_raked * 16) / (big_blind * 2) = winrate drop in ptbb/100

So, say you play 6-max and win 16.66% of your hands. .5*16.66% = $8.33/100.

2/4 = 2.0825 BB/100
3/6 = 1.3883 BB/100
5/10 = .833 BB/100
10/20 = .4165 BB/100
15/30 = .2776 BB/100

Anything 2/4 and below is basically unbeatable now. Amazing.

You have the same rake for every limit now. I estimate this costs us $750 per
10,000 hands we are dealt. We win about 15% of hands dealt to us times 50 cents
per hand.

Now we are having 55 cents taken out of a dollar pot instead of a nickel. You
(Party Gaming) end up with all the money.

You are making a huge mistake. Now, instead of having a bunch of high-volume,
consistent players, you would rather have a bunch of players who suck and go
bust really fast and don't stick around? Got logic?

Your generic response is going to be something along the lines of the value of
the freerolls.

The way I see it at $2/4 is simply a 33% hike in rake which I have a chance to
win back 30% in an unfamiliar structure (NL MTT), while 70% of it gives me a
slim to no chance at actually winning (BBJ). The claim that your company makes
no additional fees is absurd. There is still a 10% administration fee on the 70%
that goes into the BBJ hands so essentially you are making an additional 3.5
cents per hand

You have essentially alienated your high-volume players with this promotion. At
a conservative estimate of making 1bb/100 hands four-tabling the 15/30 games,
under the new structure you are demoting my pay from $120/hr to $86/hr. Do you
realize how drastic this is? This will cost me thousands of dollars a month if I
continue to play here.

Many (mostly VIPs) will now be taking their business to Stars until this
ridiculousness is resolved.

Thanks for your time.

I agree that this is a bad/terrible promo for cash game players I will ask this...Why STARS??? What does Stars do for High volume players??? Stars has no RB(only any VIP program with cash rewards),no sign up bonuses and only a few unclearable deposit bonuses each year...

Even if you play on the Monster tables, it won't cost you any

step 1- play 5+1 qualifiers until you've won 26 of them. This should cost around 1K, maybe as high as 1.5K if you suck or run bad.

step 2- Watch as 80,000 people a day build you huge overlays

[/ QUOTE ]

right, that's actually kind of what I was thinking might be possible.
Especially since I am available on Saturdays (my best day for playing) and I suspect lots of the people who qualify for it simply will not show up for the weekly freeroll.

However, my availability on Sundays is not as good (each monthly freeroll is on the last Sunday of the month) so it still might not be that great for me.

I'll have to look at it more closely and see if it's potentially worthwhile to just try to get an entry via an SNG. Need to come up with some kind of approximation as to the actual value of a freeroll entry which is kind of hard to do at this point since we have no idea how many will qualify nor how many will actually show up.

My response:

Your contention that this promo isn't costing me an extra cent is laughable. Every time I win a raked pot it has 50 cents less than it would have had were it not for this promotion. I understand that this money is being used to fund the jackpot and freerolls but I will most likely not win a jackpot and I definitely don't plan on playing any freerolls.

I understand that not every promotion can please all of your players, but this promotion is being funded out of my pocket. The 'normal' tables are so few in number that they are not a viable alternative. Please end or alter this promotion as soon as possible.

You should have added " How can it be considered a ""freeroll"" if iit cost me $.50 for every hand that I win to enter?????"
