Can someone explain to me all the love for Locke?

He is by far my least favorite character. His early exchanges with Ben were amazing, but overall he's just annoying. I also hate about he goes on about "the Island."

Meh, I guess I'm just not a fan of a "living" island. I'm still hoping that everything is at least somewhat grounded in science.

I was about to say the exact same thing. Des has always went out of his way to not tell any details of his visions for fear the outcome might change. For something as important as the losties getting rescued, I just don't see him disclosing that info so easily.

Do we know who's flashback it will be next week? I predict it'll be Desmonds, they'll show his *true* vision sometime during the episode, Charlie will die, and because Charlie dies instead of Desmond the rescue won't happen.

I could be wrong, but haven't all of Desmond's visions been something that Desmond himself could/would have observed if steps had not been taken to avert them? And theories have been that he has already lived all of these events (possibly multiple times) and his visions are actually memories.
In this case he must be lying about the vision of Charlie dying, since there is no way he could have observed Charlie drowning with as much detail as he said (flashing yellow button etc). So I guess either he's lying or that theory is shot down.

Talking to a friend about this:

When they say "You need the sub to get off the island"... when they blindfold Juliette...

They don't take the sub from the island to the mainland, there's a portal or something else in The Looking Glass. You need the sub to get to The Looking Glass and whatever is in the Looking Glass gets you to the rest of the world.

Possible? Plausible? At first thought this seems like a pretty solid theory.

To go along with this, maybe that is why Naomi says their plane was found in the middle of the ocean, with dead passengers. The plane crashed right on top of the portal, and made the plane and all them end up in the island/around the island. Because making a huge plane with people disappearing would look fishy to DHARMA, they somehow made it so that every thing that goes into the portal crashes there, and kills everyone.

Thats how the plane ended up there.
Thats how Des' boat ended up there.
Thats how the sub gets there.
Thats why, you need a specific latitude/longitude/compass direction to get out of the island? Possibly a second portal thats far out, so in case the station does get messed up, they are not stuck there?

My recollection of facts isnt 100% so let me ask here.

If I recall correctly Locke explodes the Submarine. Everyone is under the impression that is hte only on and off the island is by the Submarine.

In a later episode Ben adn the Others kidnap Locke's Dad and bring him to the island.

Therefore there is another way to travel to and from the island.
