poker ethics: is it right to take money from unknowns online who may very well be gambling with money they really shouldnt be? [/ QUOTE ] Logic: Can you tell them apart? If yes, then answer to ethical question is yes. If no, then answer to ethical question is that it is not your problem. Hyperthetically the answers are interchangable depending on your moral compass; a fundamental christian or muslim would say all gambling is wrong, a fair amount of poker players take the "not my problem" point of view. |

Link He says his stars name is feedpeep not metalmover. [/ QUOTE ] It is true that his stars name is indeed feedpeep He offered me an insurance prop bet when I was at a final table, something like 10% of me for $150. I ended up in 7th and he sent me $78 or something which was indeed the difference. The transfer was from feedpeep. |

Gildwulf, if you are going through the trouble of checking basic info like screenshots etc, why don't you take it one step further and ask people who start a charity drive for telephone number / copies of id, speak to them on phone - and have them send in some kind of letter of intent that could mean something in case legal questions are raised?
or would that tie 2+2 too closely to the efforts? |

[/ QUOTE ] Analogy: Can a coke dealer tell apart the customers that are addicted or will be addicted from those that are able to enjoy it casually? In extreme cases yes, but who is to say that the person that buys the drugs off of him is going to be the user? This analogy works best towards professional poker players, and slightly less towards semi-pros/recreationals. |

[ QUOTE ]
Vig's account was not frozen. The account he opened for donations was closed and the money was transfered over to his personal account. The money is now gone. The logical conclusion is that it was gambled away, as other evidence has also illustrated. [/ QUOTE ] Dude. Wow. Also, re the 130K thing which I can't be bothered finding and quoting: "Dude. Wow." again. [ QUOTE ] Lesson learned: be careful when opening up your pocketbook to people you barely know on the internet. If you do plan on doing so in the future, make sure it is through a reputable organization. [/ QUOTE ] Such as ChrisV, Inc. Shipping it crucial (to the kids). Seriously, I think it would be a pity if there were no more fundraising threads on BBV. I definitely think though that they should be to raise money for established charities and not one-man crusades. Also, those collecting the money should be EXTREMELY established 2+2ers and preferably rich. Frankly, I was probably a slightly risky choice for the "lol donkaments" donations. OK, I'm pretty well established and have a decent reputation, but I live thousands of miles from 99% of you. It would have been a breeze for me to simply cash the money out and never log on to 2+2 again, assuming I didn't have personal friend 2+2ers who would have me lynched for doing this (I do). Also, nobody really has a clue what my financial status is. I could have been flat broke and desperate for cash. I'd hope I've proven myself enough at this point that I now would be an OK choice if another such thread were to happen. Mostly though I think collectors should be limited to guys like nath, Jman etc, assuming anyone like that would be willing to do it. [ QUOTE ] nobody made a mistake in allowing this to happen. Anyone that thinks a mistake was made is being results oriented. Each donator knew there was some (albeit small) risk that $ wouldn't reach mrs. vig or that it was a scam. [/ QUOTE ] Well spoken sir. I don't think Gildwulf deserves blame for this. I mean, a guy who was basically a member of the BBV family sends through rock solid proof that his wife has cancer and Gild is supposed to conclude that he's using that as an excuse to scam a few thousand? Waa waa wee waa. It's so incomprehensible to me that someone would do that, I guess you should never underestimate the power of an addiction. |
