[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I wonder what THE BLOGGERS will have to say about Jarrett. [/ QUOTE ] I dunno but the Patriots obv. dissmissed Carrol too early [/ QUOTE ] Is that wishful thinking on your part hoping that Belichek went to Buffalo instead and Carrol still in NE? [/ QUOTE ] That would've been nice, but it's more me making fun of Mussberger. |

srjunkacct, I think the edge would be existent in only <10 plays a game where you'd have any sort of advantage. You'd get crushed in the other 90+ plays though. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, I think that the 90+ plays is where a good game-theorist would have a big advantage. I think if a team had DS or any half-decent poker player or economist calling runs vs. passes and let the coordinators pick the specific plays, that team would improve significantly. |

i missed the 2nd half of the game, what exactly did jarrett do? [/ QUOTE ] Taunting on two plays. A classy coach would have benched Jarrett for the game after the first taunting play. Absolutely disgusting, but it is what we've all come to expect from USC. I was at this game decked out in UCLA gear. It was amazing how many jerk SC fans gave me the opportunity to remind them "13-9". What I also found amazing - I went to the game with a confused Ohio State fan. At the game he found another older fan decked out in OSU gear. He asked him, "so... who are we supposed to cheer for?" "Oh, I hope that Michigan absolutely crushes SC." For a UCLA fan, that question is easily answered by SC fans. In fact, my father (UCLA grad) went to a USC Rose Bowl game about 10-15 years ago intending to root for his brother's SC trojans, but left the game whole-heartedly cheering for the Big Ten team because SC fans were just too obnoxious and rude to support. Classless fans, players, and coaches. My best counter-heckle came while they were scrolling the two schools' game logs on the scoreboard: "Why are you wearing that jersey? Check the scoreboard, UCLA's not playing." "I AM looking at the scoreboard, IT SAYS THIRTEEN TO NINE!!!!" I think about 3 times during the game the SC heckles came raining down on me and my brother. We got many opportunites to remind them: 1) 13-9 2) The National championship is in Glendale. 3) #8 4) #1 in basketball 5) 13-9 One confused SC fan said, designed for my ears, "I'm glad UCLA beat us so I could watch them play here at such a high level!!!" ZING!!! |

LOL at calling USC classless when you purposefully wear UCLA gear to their game just to be able to taunt them.

LOL at calling USC classless when you purposefully wear UCLA gear to their game just to be able to taunt them. [/ QUOTE ] I understand this perspective. My sports perspective is that you wear the colors/jerseys of the teams you support. I'm not going to go to the game sporting Michigan gear, but wish those fans to know why I am cheering for their team. A big part of Fan-dom is finding community. Several other Bruin fans stopped so that we could shake hands, give high fives, etc. The ticket-taker at the gate said, "that's the best jersey I've seen all day!" A random program vendor said about the same. I'm not wearing UCLA gear to taunt SC fans, I'm wearing UCLA gear because I'm a UCLA fan. You may say that I should "turn the other cheek," and not respond to heckles, but that's not how fan-dom works. You respond with "my team is better than your team." Now, some heckles can be delivered in a classy, friendly way like the SC fan who answered his son's question, "would we have beaten Florida State?" "oh we would have destroyed them. UCLA had no business being in a bowl." Some can be delivered in a classless way, like the SC fan who slapped my friend on the back after a SC touchdown and said, "Did you like that play?" I'll gladly engage in counter-heckling, and would invite friendly fans of opposing teams to do the same. However, as fans there are rules. After the 13-9 win, some UCLA fans went over the line in taunting SC fans. Obv, immediately taunting after the big game is classless. I saw a good deal of mean-spirited taunting today, some of it directed at me, and some of it directed at Michigan fans. And my hatred for USC grows. |
