elwood,
I don't agree with your stance that the forum shouldn't have ever been split and that it takes away from the site as a whole etc. Every site has a general discussion area for the same reason we do, to eliminate the inescapable ennui of talking only about poker or whatever the given site is about. If I read too much HSNL or strat posts I start to get cabin fever and I need to excercise my mind in another, lighter way without going to another website. This way I can support a community that I know and like and cover a broad range of interests on one board. I am a memeber of a movie discussion board and a book discussion board, the book one for over 3 years now but the difference is that neither of them as broad a range as 2p2 and it's why I read this site more than the others. ~td |

Creating a Movies,Books,TV Forum(A&E is way to broad) just creates a filter for people who want to focus on those topics instead of having to weed through all the misc crap on OOT--the misc crap is a lot of fun, and thats 75% why I read OOT...the other 25% being the film/tv posts.
I don't think OOT is going to die off because the LOST 2/24, or Entourage Season Premiere threads will now be in the MBTV forum. And the idea that OOT posters will abandon it seems nuts. I'd frequent OOT just as often, but I would post more in the MBTV thread cuz I know it won't disappear in a matter of hours. Does it really matter either way? No. But would it make things easier? Yes. The less clutter the better. OOT=totally random [censored] If there are sub divisions for Sports,Politics,SMR, why a movies/tv division would be a problem is beyond me. |

All,
I just want to say I agree wholeheartedly with every word El D has said in this thread. He shares my sentiments exactly, only he has expressed them much better. Working as an engineer for a few years has completely ruined my writing skills. |

[/ QUOTE ] There is a reason it disapears is because people don't want to read it, sorry to say. This is a fact: Threads on popular subjects get responded to. A thread on something not popular, or even garnering interest, will fall to the bottom as it should. This is what was said earlier and it is true: You want to take a subject that doesn't get read in its home forum, and give it its own forum. I think you are mistaking "getting lost in the shuffle of crap" for "the stuff I want to post about is part of that shuffle of crap." |

egohead,
Then there is no reason not to do it right? I mean from the POV of us posters. By your reasoning it can't hurt OOT, but only the site owners. |

There will end up being 15 different forums for the people who continue to bitch about their stuff falling to the bottom. For my own selfish reasons (and I should add everyone else here who isn't too lazy to go to a different site for movies, books, etc), I don't want to scroll through piles of stuff I don't want to read when it can naturally fall to the bottom of the barrel where it belongs. Also, not sure about the "egohead" thing, mostly I get called "Ego" or "egocidal", but if you want to be a dick about this thats cool too. |
