i think papelbon's splitter is up there with rivera's cutter three years ago and santana's circle change as one of the top pitches in the game

sorry, just bitter i have him on my fantasy team

well didn't Rivera used to throw it at 95/96.97 mph..I believe now & even last year it was around 92/93/94 mph. But he's always seemed to have had some kindof hiccup in the start of the season lately...so it may just be the norm...plus he's hasn't thrown much so far so maybe thats why his velocity is down so much.

the most likely reason for any drop in production is that he is 37 years old.

believe it or not, things look great for yanks this year after this series

You'd have to be nuts (or fanatical) to count out the Yankees in April.

But they'd better find somebody who can pitch. A lot of somebody's. And fast.

This was not a bad series for the Yankees. With all their injuries we eked out a win in all three games. As I told the guys in the coffee shop yesterday, the Yankees are going to beat up on a lot of teams with that lineup even if they don't get their starting pitching totally straightened out. And there is no way the Sox are running away from them.

wtf is with all the yankee optimism

this month has been a disaster for them

before the season they were probably >60% to win the division and now they're prob like 33%

a 4 game hole is huge, i dont care if the red sox have blown bigger leads before

I hate the Yankees a lot but they are missing most of their starting pitchers. I'm not sure if they will be able to come back but they could.

Wow, these are two of the strangest posts I have seen in a long time.

Toro: Yes this was a bad series. How much worse can it be than being swept and having Rivera get torched in his one outing.

Gehrig: A 4 game hole isn't huge. It is barely worth mentioning when only 10% of the season has been played.

not only that, the yankees have how many games left with the red sox? c'mon. it's not like the yankees got blown out in this series, either.

the yankees have a great team, they've just built themselves a bigger hole than most people are realizing

At this point in the season, to say the Yankees are in a big hole is ridiculous.

As for my post saying this was not a "bad" series for the Yankees I was looking at it from the perspective of how the two teams matched up. Obviously the Sox are not far ahead of the yankees even with them having a lot of key players out.

As for the "sweep" look at it this way. The Sox should expect to win 2 of 3 at home. Now if this gets repeated next weekend at the stadium that's a little different.
