Thoughts 1- The blowing up the tree was retarded. What point does that make beyond "hey look, we've got [censored] that we can blow stuff up with!?". [/ QUOTE ] To test the remote ignition system? Some nitpicks: 1) It doesn't make any sense to use an underwater station to jam the transmissions. The attenuation of sea water is so great that normal radio frequencies can't really penetrate it. That's why communication with submarines is a difficult task. 2) Setting off dynamite by trying to shoot it in the dark doesn't seem to be a really smart idea. 3) Why would a radio tower use the same transmission frequency as a satellite phone? 4) Why would the distance to the ship matter when you are using a satellite phone? |

taobot,
I'm assuming that the answers to 1 and 3 are "some crazy next level dharma tech" |

also, its never really stated whether the station is the one sending out the jamming signals or if its communicating with something ABOVE water that is sending it out. Which leads to the question "why not just cut the wire"? Well, its possible there are other wires to go out to other areas, and if they cut the wire, they'll never know how to get to the station anymore.

if the only problem you have with lost is its lack of faithfulness to electromagnetic physics, you're getting off pretty easy.

They could just have cut it as far up the beach as they could follow it and then test the phone. If it works, no need for anyone to go on a death defying swim to an undergorund whatever and flip some random switch. If it doesn't then you just follow the cable exactly the way they did to get to the station. The whole thing was kind of silly the way it played out. Again, there seems to be more and more things that the losties are doing that just doesn't make any sense, even in TV land where obv. some regular life rules must be broken for the sake of entertainment. |

[ QUOTE ]
The symbol for The Looking Glass is a white rabbit. Hopefully they'll take this Alice in Wonderland thing a lot farther, I think it could lead to some seriously interesting stuff in season 3 if The Looking Glass was like a jump off point to somewhere else. [/ QUOTE ] Talking to a friend about this: When they say "You need the sub to get off the island"... when they blindfold Juliette... They don't take the sub from the island to the mainland, there's a portal or something else in The Looking Glass. You need the sub to get to The Looking Glass and whatever is in the Looking Glass gets you to the rest of the world. Possible? Plausible? At first thought this seems like a pretty solid theory. |

[/ QUOTE ] you've forgotten that the french distress signal is also blocking the phone from working. So they need to both go to the radio tower to shut it off, cut the wire, and test the phone at the same time. And theres not way for the people who cut the wire to know if it actually worked or not. |

[/ QUOTE ] Maybe it's not actually the French broadcast that's blocking the signal? It's probably the Other's jamming that's doing it, and Sayid blamed it on Rousseau's distress signal, not realising it was being jammed. |
