My only guess was that he thought it was a foul ball. They are bad at baserunning, and their basecoaches are also quite bad.

They could, but Barajas, no matter how much of a turd, is still a better option than pinch-hitting with a pitcher.

I'd take Randy Wolf PH over Barajas any day...

What's with all the Rod Barajas bashing? He's a career .700 OPS Catcher, and he's posted a .700 OPS this year, with it more weighted to OBP, which actually makes him more valuable. I realize he looked retarded on one big play but cut him a break guys.

A lot of it has to do with his comments after the game as well. Also, nearly every fan would rather have Coste as the backup than Barajas since he "earned" it by his performance last year.

People are bitter because Philly has a better, cheaper catcher who just got sent down to AA.

PS. Cole Hamels is God and could have willed a pinch-hit.

I would not say Coste is definitly better (sample size issues) but he definitly has better POTENTIAL when compared to Barajas's long career of mediocrity.

EDIT: Also I'd rather lose with a guy I like than a guy I am at best indifferent to.

You mean compared to Coste's long career of minor-league mediocrity?

The hitter's eye makes all the difference (at least according to John Marzano) this is also why I said potential. Worst case as I see it is he is equivalent to Barajas...

I was speaking about the Phillies, as it, there isn't a pitcher on the Phillies I would see bat over Barajas. That being said, I'd still take Barajas over Wolf.

I'm getting kind of sick of how awful this team is fundamentally. Baserunning, fielding, coaching and generally playing smart baseball have been absent all year and it's growing tiresome to watch.

You do realize while Coste never made it to the majors before 2006, he is 34 years old yeah? (Barajas is 31) He put up a good year, but most of it was driven by an absolutely unsustainable .389 BABIP.
