A&E topics don't generate the same rabid partisan fights that are at the core of many liberal vs. conservative or Red Sox vs. Yankees arguements. Don't split off A&E.

I came here hoping to learn why we need a separate forum for Accidents and Emergencies.

pryor,
No. My post implies exactly what it said, that a number of quality posters will quite likely frequent OOT much less, with potentially dire impact on the forum. |

I just went and read dibitters review of Kingpin. I have never read one before but I am glad that I have skipped over them. No offense dibitter, but as everyone knows the cream rises to the top. I don't think that unless you did a review of a butt wipping movie that anyone would be interested in it at this moment. I mean, where would you put a post titled "Rosebud"?

I like OOT. I read some A&E threads in OOT. I'm not interested enough in A&E per se to read the A&E forum. Selfishly, I'd vote not to split. Businesswise, I don't know if people like me matter.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] This place would be a lot drier without it, and it would be a shame to see it go. I tend to think that dispersing heavy chunks of the content that the more thoughtful posters seem to gravitate to is a step in that direction. [/ QUOTE ] Heaven forbid the adolescents obsessed with banging myspace chicks, wanking, farts, the slights of their friends & families, etc., should be left cold and alone in OOT. [/ QUOTE ] You're missing the point. The risk isn't that this would happen just in OOT, but that the good, intelligent posters would stop showing up altogether and then all you're left with is the crew you described. Now go back to trolling ZeeJustin related threads, please. [/ QUOTE ] also keep in mind that many of the older and better strategy posters now frequent OOT more than the strategy forums, and may stop visiting 2+2 altogether if OOT starts sucking royally, which it needs no encouragement in the form of another forum split to do. the real trainwreck here would be the harm this split may cause to the strategy forums, not what may happen to (O)OT and its spinoffs. this is still a poker forum, right? [/ QUOTE ] Good point. |

Would masterbation posts be considered Arts? Or Entertainment? [/ QUOTE ] Neither. They would be considered OOT, at best. I'd vote for OOOT. |

[ QUOTE ]
Question - Do you really think, for example, that Pryor's film of that obscure movie that died, or Diebitter's threads, will get that much more attention ina an A&E forum? [/ QUOTE ] I do. But I think it would fundamentally change OOT's overall tone, perhaps gutting it. How much that matters, I'm not sure. |

The original split of OOT was dumb to begin with. The people who run this site have diluted it greatly by providing too many non-poker related forums (or is it fora) as is. The fact that OOT accounts for the vast majority of the traffic should not be something that Mason et al are happy about. As much as I like OOT and the politics forum I now rarely go to the poker related content.
It isn't a good thing when people start thinking of the twoplustwo as that politics site that I go to or whatever. Further splitting of other topics does much to dilute the twoplustwo brand. |

While I predict this dumb idea will end up happening, I at least want to point the admins to the comments by ElD and Blarg and also sprinkle in a big juicy "told ya so" in the process. Those two are clearly among the most prolific - and respected - posters on this forum and they're both warning of dire consequences.
Consider that you have a nightclub, and it's bangin'. But some of the regulars want their own section. So they force an agenda and a separate area is created. Now the dynamic isn't the same, you've splintered the group and the synergy has changed. This is what will happen in this instance. BTW that poll above says to choose between "goot" and "bad", and then the choices are "yes" and "no"? What's up with that? |
