since i think turnabout is fair play, i just drafted an 8-team 5x5 mixed league, keep 6. (i know, *yawn*). flame away, or feel free to scoff at my strategy and ignore all advice from here onward.

1B Albert Pujols (1)
2B Ian Kinsler (17)
3B Alex Gordon (10)
SS Hanley Ramírez (4)
IF Prince Fielder (9)
OF Grady Sizemore (2)
OF Jason Bay (3)
OF Adam Dunn (5)
Util Jeff Francoeur (16)
BN Rocco Baldelli (19)

SP Ben Sheets (6)
SP Jeremy Bonderman (8)
SP John Lackey (11)
RP B.J. Ryan (7)
RP Eric Gagne (13)
RP Octavio Dotel (14)
P John Smoltz (12)
P Todd Jones (21)
BN Matt Cain (15)
BN Aaron Harang (18)
BN Anthony Reyes (20)
BN Francisco Liriano (22)
BN John Patterson (23)

I think every pick has solid value except maybe Gagne and Dotel. I'd imagine the closers were starting to disappear at that point.

I can't imagine that Cain was a bad pick in round 15, and in reality was probably a really good pick. Not only does he have the upside to become an ace this year, but if he reaches that upside, you've got a great keeper...even if he's only trade bait.

I like the starting staff you've put together but am not all that impressed with the closers after Ryan. Even in an eight team league, you might be better off putting some MR in the relief pitching spots and going with an extra starter as your utility pitcher. Gagne's probably not going to hurt you since he'll either be healthy or not, but I could see Jones and especially Dotel blowing up on you. I don't really think either pitcher has much upside, so it's proabbly not worth it to have them in the rotation.

I'm not sure what kind of a bench you have or positional requirements, but I like a lot of positional players ahead of Liriano as a potential keeper. It will be very hard to protect him in your top 6 players next year unless he comes back and shows something at the end of this season. Very long odds.

On offense, I pretty much like every player. I think the two best value picks are Hanley Ramirez in the 4th and Ian Kinsler in the 17th. I think Hanley is the steal of your draft just because of his superstar status.

You and I can now both hold our breath in hopes that Alex Gordon breaks camp with the Royals.

Need some advice on which 4 players to keep, in a 10-team MLB head-to-head points league. The players in question are all hitters, to simplify matters a bit. Here are the scoring rules and lineup requirements:

We have $260 salary to auction draft a team of 19, and fill in other players later serp style. To keep a player, you add $5 to his previous year's salary, and we can keep 4 players. Here are the 5 players I am choosing from, and what their salaries would be this year:

Miguel Cabrera 3B - $33
Travis Hafner DH - $24
Victor Martinez C - $16
Aramis Ramirez 3B - $16
Hanlez Ramirez SS - $7

My thoughts:
Cabrera - Stud. The biggest hitters go for over $40 in our league, sometimes over $50. He is a no-brainer to me.

Hafner - Another Stud hitter.

Aramis: I already have a 3b. He puts up pretty good numbers, would be used like an OF pretty much. This is the last year I could keep him ($1 on auction 3 years ago $$$).

Victor Martinez: Big gap above replacement level catcher.

Hanley: He's cheap, but will he come close to last year's numbers? Also, while SB are worth something in our league, they are not worth as much as in a Roto league by far.

My instinct is to drop Aramis, since I already have a 3b, but I'm having a hard time keeping the unproven Hanley over Aramis, when Aramis puts up such good power numbers.

6x5 H2H league, I got the 3rd draft choice out of a league of 12. My team is:

C Brian McCann
1B Todd Helton
2B Dan Uggla
3B Aramis Ramírez
SS Jimmy Rollins
OF Alfonso Soriano
OF Matt Holliday
OF Ken Griffey Jr.
Util Frank Thomas
BN Lyle Overbay
BN Brad Hawpe

SP C.C. Sabathia
SP Jason Schmidt
RP Chad Cordero
RP Bob Wickman
P Randy Johnson
P Bartolo Colón
P Jon Garland
BN Greg Maddux

Comments? I took Soriano after Pujols and A-Rod went 1-2. I think I've got a pretty well-rounded team on field, all categories seem to be covered pretty well. I think my weakest aspect is starting pitching. Suggestions on what you'd look to improve first?

ok looks like BP released some adjustments to their PFM.

do you guys suggest the following settings:

Positional Adjustment Level 1
Use Inflation Yes
User Centric Inflation Yes
Use SGP Yes

using these new settings, my top free agents (as an expansion team, explained above) are:

Peavy, Jake SP $32.65
Sheets, Ben SP $29.73
Carpenter, Chris SP $29.27
Webb, Brandon SP $28.30
Bonderman, Jeremy SP $26.00
Fielder, Prince 1B $25.96
Mauer, Joe C $24.74
Oswalt, Roy SP $24.70
Dunn, Adam LF $24.67
Ryan, B.j. RP $24.30

a whole bunch of pitchers in my 7x5 league and 70% of spending dedicated to pitching? weird?

I don't want to take all pitchers, so I am thinking about

Peavy, Fielder, and Mauer or Dunn

look ok?

my league is points and gives points for the following:

R (1), 1B (1), 2B (2), 3B (3), HR (4), RBI (1), SB (2), CS (-1), BB (1), K (-0.2), IP (2), W (15), CG (5), SHO (10), SV (8), H (-0.75), ER (-1), BB (-0.75), K (1)

Also, there's 4 roster spots for SP and only 2 for RP. And we get 1300 IP.

I think this is messed up, but still want to win. I figure these stats makes basestealers worthless and gives SP alot of value. Your thoughts?
