Bob - that's a good guess, but no. Think "shot heard round the world".

Yeah, i checked wikipedia after I posted. I thought the correct answer at first, but I thought it was way too easy.

I may be to technical here, but it was Lexington and Concord. I want to say it was a draw.

Lexington. I'm not sure if anyone died, but I would say the Americans lost cause they fled I believe. Edit: this means the British won.

I'll accept it - shot heard round the world was at Lexington, 8 Americans died, think no British did. So it's close enough.

Though the first military encounter is really a series of battles (Battles of Lexington and Concord) and the Massachusetts Militia (including Minutemen baby) tore it up.

Lexington and Concord was hardly a "military encounter". More like a guerilla ambush. But whatever...

Bob - haha yeah it's not that hard. I really like American History though and know a bunch of random useless crap, so went with something I thought was pretty answer-able.

Sam - that's war, baby.

Good point, but it is taught as being the first shots of the war. But again, whatever...

Okay, I'll continue the American Revolution theme with another one:

Where did the British finally surrender (city, state), and who was the British general that signed the surrender.
