I voted for Phil, but I am impressed by Madsen for sure. His Stud/8 performance might be enough to bump him up in my eyes.
I think people are seriously underestimating the skill involved in 8-or-better games. Yes, No Limit Texas Hold Em is clearly the benchmark for identifying great players. But don't underestimate the skill involved in the split pot games. To win you have to be very skilled at avoiding situations where you can get "counterfieted" on the last card, or situations where you end up being "quartered". The players who can nagivate those minefields really raise their game to another level. This isn't a card catching contest like Razz or something. Therefore a player like Madsen should get some credit for doing well in these games, compared to Hellmuth, who has never won a bracelet in a non-hold-em event. |

Also, I'd like to challenge everyone of you internet geeks in this thread to play ME headsup k thx, especially nath who is a luckflap of the highest odor and TWP who is just mean. Except also we should play MIXED games, not just silly Texas, how about SPARERIB: Stud-hi, Padugi, ARm-wrestling, Riverdown, English Lit, Rochambeau, fIvecard-stud and Beerbowling. Can you hantle it? [/ QUOTE ] You only need the A in Arm-wrestling to form SPARERIB. I challenge you to 10/20 Acronymizing. |

[/ QUOTE ] I think you missed the point of Razz, although you have to start with the card catching foundation its a game where pot manipulation, avoiding mine fields, great hand reading and intense value betting gains the chips... its not the card catching contest everyone thinks it is. Its equally a measure as Stud 8 is IMHO. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

So after reading through this thread I thought i might use some of the 'inside information' (like the mathematical analysis by fslexcduck) on Jeff Madsen to make some money at the bookies.
Anyways I asked the bookie what odds he could offer me on Madsen winning over 50 bracelets and he laughed in my face and said 1000-1. We'll see who's laughing in 10 years time won't we? (Thanks in advance 2+2) |

El Diablo,
You may have weakened your argument by comparing Madsen to Tiger Woods. Everyone knows that Ivy is the Tiger Woods of poker. Other then that, I think you're spot on. -Waxie |

All,
I've been thinking. The best tournament player of all-time might be Paul Phillips. He wins at poker tournaments AND scrabble tournaments. BANG!! |

does someone really have to win a lot of bracelets to be considered the best TOURNAMENT player of all time? if someone managed to make the final table of every tournament they played in for 10 years but never won one wouldn't that person still be considered one of the best of all time, if not ever? anyway, there are other events than just the WSOP.
