Ok I guess I should do this. I've been a slacker.
My name is Nick. I'm 23 years old and living in Pittsburgh, PA currently, Oakland to be exact, the town surrounding U of Pitt's campus. I'll give the very short short version of my past. I grew up as a youngin in Valley Stream, NY. Long Island represent. When I was about 9, I moved to a little town called Nanty Glo, PA. Talk about culture shock. I slept my way through highschool there and still made a decent grade. After graduating highschool I decided I wanted to go to U of Pitt for computer science. I was always a decent programmer/tech guy in highschool so I figured this would be a great path for me. When I arrived at college and took my placement tests I realized how big of a disadvantage it was to attend a rural high school. I didn't have any of the tools I needed to prepare myself for college classes and placed poorly. Needless to say, I excelled in most of my college classes but quickly became disinterested with CS. I'd realized that hours and hours of looking over code just wasnt my thing. I changed majors to journalism. Yeah, this was a huge jump but writing was fresh for me and I seemed to have a knack for it. Enter: poker into my life. My buddy gave me the little yellow sklansky book when I was a sophomore and told me how he was crushing the 50c/1 FR limit games on Party (OMG MAD MONEIZ.) He said he made like 100 in a week and being a broke college student I was like OMG 100 DOLLARS, I'M IN. So I began to learn how to play poker and like most things I do, when I love it, I become complete obsessed with it. I bought TOP and HPFAP and read both like 5 times a piece. The live games in Pittsburgh were soft and I ran super hot. I had housing and food paid for since I was still in college so my profits were all gravy. Poker was great but it was cutting into my school work. I took a look on my bookshelf one day and saw twice as many poker books as school books and decided I wanted to play for a living. At 20, I decided to take the path of a grinder. I'd already been playing for a year and was making great money so how hard could it be. Lilttle did I know it was pretty gd hard. Eventually I started to lack motivation. I smoked too much weed, drank too much, ordered take out too much, spent time and money on women too much, and didnt play enough poker. This took me from around 12k to busto real fast. During my busto phase I met a girl who I loved very much. We spent loads of time together. I, however, was dead broke. I was about read to get a job when I saw Empire Poker sent me a free 10 dollars. I started to play 50c/1 and ran it up to 50, then 100, then 300. I was remotivated. I started contributing in the 2p2 forums and not just lurking. I was rededicated and made my made monies back from that little 10. Then disaster strikes again. Me being the naive dumb ass that I am, trusts girl with a big cash out since I was having neteller problems. Girl steals bankroll and flies to the UK and gets engaged a month later after being with me for a year and a half. Standard. Busto again. This was about Dec 2005. After that I caught a pseudo lucky break and my buddy Rich Belsky, who went to school at Pitt as well and a fellow poker player hooked me up with a job at Cardplayer College freelancing. (That's why there were inside LOLs about Chuck's "You should write for Cardplayer comment.") I've never said this before because there is much CP hate on 2p2. But I just write 800 words every two weeks and they ship me 100 so its not a bad gig. That was busto number two, but I rule at cards and start grinding away again and for the THIRD time I'm back where I was with a lot of life lessons and poker professional lessons under my belt. My game for years has been short handed limit hold em, 5/10 mostly. I'm a recent convert to NL. Things are all cheddar now. I have a new girl I'm into, I'm running hot, I'm paying off debt, I have tons of experience under my belt and I'm workin out like crazy since I put on a few after the ex-bitch took off. In closing I'd like to give a shout out to a few people who have been clutch in my time of need. OurHouse: We met back when HUSH was one forum and he's always been my friend and poker mentor. He also introduced me to POG. Helped me out a bunch when I was down on my luck. Definitely wouldn't be here without him. Don West: I knew him since I started playing poker in Pittsburgh. Been a great friend for years. He also threw me a bone when times were tough. Will certainly always be appreciated. Good card player although a bit of a lagfish luckbox I'm glad he decided to quit his stupid ass job and went back to playing for a living The new chica: Definitely has been very supportive and far more than I ever could have hoped for over the past few months. A few honorable mentions go to my buddy Luke aka IWEARGOGGLES here on 2p2. Don't know him that well but a cool guy in general and a tourney luckbox in the party sunday million to 25k. That would have only been 700 if he didnt spike a sick 3-outer to get a huge stack. Great tournadonk player though. Mad props to him. And more recently, someone new I met, Dave, also a 2p2 poster (though I'm not sure he would want his username mentioned.) He's the one who turned me on to no limit and has helped a bunch by letting me sit in on numerous skypings. That's about it. Wow. So much for the short version. That's me in a nutshell. Hollaback POG. oh and tl;dr |

Yeah it's been kind of a crazy trip but I wouldn't give it up for anything. I feel like a lot of the tough life lessons I learned have made me a better person.
Oh and as for hobbies I'm into racquetball, my [censored] guitar , videogames (Guitar Hero!!!!11), WW (duh), smoking, drinking, and smoking, long walks on the beach, and women with no gag reflex. holla. I'm also a recovering MMORPG addict. I beta-tested EQ, played UO for a long time, spent way too much time on numberous RR6 characters on DAoC, and more recently WoW. I quit cold turkey and don't plan to go back. WTS lvl 59 undead mage btw. Payments can be made via Party Poker |

That's a good one I left off.. I haven't touched a MMORPG in ages but I was raid leader then guild leader for a successful EQ guild for many years.
Wasted lots of time into that.. it was great.. and met great people I still hang with today.. but I have no desire to play one again. I got a 60 druid in WoW and raided some but just don't have the interest anymore. |

Fnord and Mdorand, I am going to Bosnia and Albania in a couple of months. I am sure you didn't do a lot of tourism while you were there, but if you did get leave or have any suggestions let me know. [/ QUOTE ] No, we didnt have time any time off. I think I had 1 day off for the whole 6 months. This was back when a lot of the crazy stuff was going on over there and there were like a million land mines unnacounted for...so they didnt let us out of camp really. I couldnt tell you a single nice place to visit. |
