Pizzolatto Likes the River With a board of J86, seat 5 pushes all-in for $2,850 and Nath Pizzolatto calls. Seat 5 has 1010, Pizzolatto 76. The turn is the K, keeping seat 5 in the lead with a pair of 10's but the river is the 7 and Pizzolatto eliminates ihhs opponent from the main event with two pair 7's and 6's. |

Gay.
"Raymer Gets Clocked With the board showing J876, Raymer bets $2,500, and the player in seat 5 trys to move all-in, but is cited for a string-raise by a floorman, and her action is reduced to a call. The river is the 10, Raymer checks and seat 5 moves all-in for her last $5,525. Raymer thinks for a long time, and a large crowd with two cameramen form around the table. The player in seat 8 calls the clock on Raymer, and he lets it run down to the end before making the call. Seat 5 shows J9 for the straight and Raymer mucks. Raymer is crippled down to $6,500." |

WSOP MAIN EVENT July 30th, 2006 Day 3 2160 entries $10,000 buy in
My first main event. I can tell from the get go I don’t like my table. To my immediate left is Colson10 Also on my table is “Bluff4rent”, Shannon Shorr . Both of these kids have lifetime winnings well over what I ever could reasonably expect to see playing poker. Also at my table is Chirs Bigler , a well-known pro. I raise the first hand with Ax and take it down. I like winning the first hand. This put me over $10,000 in chips for the first time. After this I play a few pots. I call raises with speculative hands looking to make a monster and play a big pot. Nothing comes. I limp with 33 and the flop comes K-7-3. Nice. It gets checked around. Hmmm. The turn is a brick and I bet half the pot. No takers. I show my set and grumble. The next hand I get 44 and limp. Flop comes 4-5-7. Two sets in a row. There is a straight out there also and I think there were two diamonds. I bet half the pot and get two callers. The turn is another 7, filling me up and I bet and they fold. Ok. This might be my high water mark- I have about 12,000 in chips. A little later I get 44 again and flop another set! The flop is again 4-5-7. Deja vu. I bet out. I get one caller. OK, its headsup. I fill up again with a 7! Tremendous! I decide to slowplay now and check. Unfortunately, the villain checks also. I never got this guys name and didn’t recognize him, but he would be involved in a lot of crucial pots. The river is a miserable 5, counterfeiting my full house. He bets out and I have to fold. Yuck. I go to the break at about 8500. Bigler is bullying the table. There is a woman two to my left who has played almost no hands. When she does she limps. I have never seen her raise. She is the tightest player I have ever seen. I’m stealing some blinds occasionally, but most of the time I have something playable, say AJ, AT, etc. I don’t get much in the way of pairs. I get AJ UTG and raise. The tightest female player in the world calls me. Uh oh. The flop comes J-high. I bet 800. She calls. Meh. The turn is nothing. I bet 1000. She calls. Meh. The river is a queen. For some reason I think she will make a big bet here and I want to see a showdown. The pot has about 5000 in it or so by this point, so I make a 1000 blocking bet. As far as blocking bets go, this was perfection as she called and showed me pocket QQ for a set! No raise! I guess she didn’t have the nuts (perhaps there was a potential straight on the board) or she didn’t realize that raising was part of the game. I would definitely have appreciated it if she would have raised me at some point to let me know I was in trouble. Ugh. Now I’m down to 7000 or so. Yuck. I get KT in the BB. 4 limpers. Flop comes Q-J-x, and I have an open-ended straight draw. I check-call a 500 bet. The turn is a K, giving me top pair with a weak kicker on a very scary board. I check-call 1000. [censored], I may have to push any river here as I’m pretty low on chips. Well, the river is a beautiful off-suit Ace giving me the nut straight. I have about 5000 left. I think about tossing in my “all-in” chip, but I bet 3000. He calls and mucks. Ahhh, now I have some chips again….. Third level- 100-200. I lose some chips. Mostly raising with hands like 99, AK etc and missing the flop or getting reraised by a big stack preflop. I’m down to 7500 or so again. 5 limpers see a flop of J-T-7. I have JT for top two pair. The short stack villain from the counterfeited full house bets the flop and I raise to 1500. He pushes for his last 4000. I call, it never occurring to me that he had 89s for a flopped straight. Now I’m really short again. F word. I wait and wait and I get JJ and push over Biglers raise. He tosses his all in button in and flips over TT and I double up. Whew. I’m still really short. Just before the dinner break. Bigler raises to 800, I call with 99. Colson10 pushes and Bigler folds. I don’t know what to do. This is a classic squeeze play, and its right before the dinner break. Colson could have anything here. You can justify making this move with any two cards really. This is clear because I’m hesitating calling him with my pocket nines. I go in the tank big time. I start talking to him. I tell him I know he’s a good player and it’s a perfect time for a squeeze play. I tell him its right before dinner and if he busts out he won’t have to come back. He’s a rock. I get no sign, feel, nothing. They call a clock. Meh. I fold reluctantly, and I think if I made a mistake tonight this was it. I go to dinner with 5000 in chips. Yuck. Level 4, 100-200 25 ante. Despite my short stack, I still have 25 BB’s and an M of 11 or so. The problem is, the bigstacks are gunning for me and if I make a raise to 800 or so, I need to be prepared to call off the rest of my chips when they come over the top which they are certain to do. Cards would help here. The highest pocket pair I’ve seen in 6 hours was JJ, and I had 99 a couple of times. No QQ, No KK, No AA. Now would be a good time. Nope. I see mostly stuff like K6, J5, 83,92,74. Yuck. I start pushing when I have a hand. I get AK, I push, I take down the blinds. I do this a few times. I play a couple hands like 78s, JTs, QJs trying to flop something but nothing comes. Meanwhile, Shannon is tearing up the table. There is a guy wearing a hat wtih "Pokulator" on it who is overly aggressive. He raises preflop and gets into it with Shannon. The flop comes 8-5-5 and the pokulator bets 5000. Shannon thinks and goes all in. The pokulator folds and immediately goes on tilt. Shortly thereafter, Shannon makes his standard raise in early position. The pokulator reraises almost all his chips, Shannon pushes and the pokulator calls with 8-6 offsuit. Shannon has aces. Amazing. Bigler and Shannon get in a hand. Flop comes 8 high and Bigler bets. Shannon raises him all in and Bigler calls with A-8, Shannon has pocket Queens and Bigler is done. Where are my hands? I have about 4000 left and limp UTG with AQo, planning to reraise all-in if someone shows aggression. Indeed, my villain from before raises to 800 and I push. He ponders and calls with 77. I miss and I’m done. Meh. |

This tournament is starting to piss me off
"Spiked Jacked Nath Pizzollato and seat 10 are all-in pre-flop. Pizzollato has AA, seat 10 JJ. The flop comes down Q82 and the Aces are still in the lead. The turn is the 3 and seat 10 is looking for one of the remaining two Jacks in the deck. The river does bring the J and Pizollato's Aces gets cracked on the river. Pizollato now sits at $17,000. " |

Dynasty,
Two things. 1: "Great players shouldn't make a habit of putting their tournament life at risk when a 70/30 favorite. They won't survive very long." That's just a ridiculous statement. 2: "In back to back 70/30 situations, you'll be eliminated 30% the first time. In the 70% of the times survive, you'll be eliminated 30% of the time (.7 *.3). So, in two back to back 70/30 hands, you are likely to be knocked out of the tournament." Thing is, Dynasty, when you win those 70/30s, YOU GET MORE CHIPS. Dynasty, you should stick to posting CardPlayer updates and leave the strategy discussions to others. |
