[ QUOTE ]
Tommy Herr [/ QUOTE ] When I was 5 or 6, I loved the mid 80s Cards teams. Coleman, Herr, Mcgee, Ozzie, etc. Anyway, fast forward to like 1998. I'm playing in an internet gin league and someone tells me that one of the players is Tommy Herr. I get really excited that I get to play with one of my baseball heros as a kid. We play some and talk a little bit. He shows me family photos, tells a few Cards stories...very cool. Very nice guy, but his life was really in the shitter at that point. Hope things have turned around for him since. Also IIRC, at the time he held some record for RBI/HR ratio for a single season. |

[/ QUOTE ] I believe he is the only player to have 100 or more rbi in a season with less than 10 HR. This was in 1985. Edit- Steve Wilson, Jeff Pico, Scott Sanderson, Les Lancaster |

[ QUOTE ] Larry Parrish [/ QUOTE ] I thought it was Lance Parrish? [/ QUOTE ] Lance Parrish was a C for the Tiger, Phils, and Angels. Larry Parrish was a 3B for the Expos, Rangers, and Red Sox (although I'm pretty sure he only DH'd for the sox). Gary Gaetti Ken Phelps Greg Gagne Steve Lombardozzi |

[/ QUOTE ] The best part about Tommy, is that he may have hated the Mets more than I. I recall some story about Tito Landrum doing his wife and her getting pregnant. Never knew if that was true or not. |

A few thoughts.
First, Bob Horner was a beast. Went straight from high school to the pros, no minor leagues, may be the most recent guy to do it, (excluding guys like Ichiro and DM) Secondly, Rolando Roomes was the first name to make me laugh at the thought of it. Billy Jo Robideaux also made me chuckle. Lastly, [ QUOTE ] Also, I previously posted a list of guys still playing that debuted in the 80's. I forgot: [/ QUOTE ] You forgot the guy who is probably in his mid 50's, Julio Franco. |

My favorite Mackey Sasser story.
Someone, I can't remember who said this about the slow-footed catcher. "He could race his pregnant wife and he would come in third." |
