I can't believe your friend is not going to jail?!?
He killed the guy in cold blood. If the robber made a move with his gun or something it's ok, but he just stood there and mouthed off your friend and your friend just shot him dead. That seems wrong to me and looks like 2nd degree murder.
I'm not sure about American laws but i'm sure you would be in trouble in Canada if you shot someone dead like that.

[/ QUOTE ]

The malicious action of this thug deserves an equally harsh response to ensure the welfare of the victim and all members of the party. Pointing a gun at someone is a causa belli, "cause of war," warranting an aggressive retaliation that crushes your enemy entirely.

I hope that I would act as swiftly in this situation -- i.e. destroying the scumbag who aims a pistol at my friend's head.

I don't see what all the non-americans in this thread are getting worked up about??

Guy comes into mans house, pulls gun + takes hostage, owner blows robbers head off.

I'm American and this sounds fine to me, no jail time for owner is fine.

[/ QUOTE ]

They think private property is a bad thing.

I agree with the general idea that as soon as someone pull out a gun he pretty much deserves to die. I don't see anything brag worthy in OP's story though...

1)this is certainly a brag, because:

op's friend had the ability/balls to save potentially several lives in the party, and in the future by killing this scumbag. it's not a brag because he got to off a scumbag for kicks; yes it's terrible to have to kill somebody, but op's friend made the best play that was available to him, and showed much heroism in doing so. NOT having the gun there, and surrendering and HOPING the scumbags don't kill them is NOT a preferable outcome. sure, many of you would rather give up some cash then have to kill someone, op's friend likely would too, BUT, you don't know that the criminals are not going to kill you! it would be retarded to leave it in the criminal's hands and hope! isn't it safe to assume once a weapon of death makes an appearance, that killing is in the cards? once that gun makes an appearance, the best play is what op's friend did. just forking over cash is like hoping for a suckout. you are leaving it up to the criminals to decide what they want to do to you.

2) i'm pretty sure this would be legal in canada (???), and, as a canadian, i think most canadians would support op's friend's actions. they would just celebrate them with better beer. it might be more difficult to get your hands on a protective weapon in canada though.

3)the only thing op's friend did wrong was warn the criminal. that could've cost him and his friend his life.

Thank you for redeeming Canadians and talking sense. Americans can be eye-rollingly awful when insisting everything they ever did or could do is perfect, but it's way too easy to take the equally dumb opposite tack of saying everything Americans do, or one American did, sucks.

it would be very sad if you would get in trouble for doing this in canada. that being said with lawyers in america you still wont be off the hook most of the time. he did not kill a guy in cold blood. do you even know what that means? i would have done the same thing for the safety of myself but i would also be worrying a [censored] about the insanity of our legal system which is really scary
