Behold my master piece and only contribution to this thread I call it, "A Friendly Game of Poker" [/ QUOTE ] There are only three people in the history of the world that have had the evil gene. Hitler had it. Walt Disney had it. ......I think you can finish it on your own. |

[ QUOTE ] As much as I appreciate PokerStar's actions I'm extremely concerned that they so far have been re-active - not pro-active. - McMelchior (Johan) [/ QUOTE ] This is the biggest issue involved here. Why and how did this happen? How often has it happened? Why did this activity go unnoticed by both Poker Stars and Party Poker? How long has it been going on? How many account and people are involved? Good lord, what about the big cash games? There is certainly some inner-circle and more than likely several small groups operating independantly. The security at both Stars and Party had better be working 24/7 until they sort all these problems out. A public report is necessary. [/ QUOTE ] That would be nice. It might reassure some players and restore some lost confidence in their security measures. It is commendable though that the real fight on cheating seems to be being waged by players. Carl |

Hi folks - We did our own review of ZeeJustin and unfortunately, found that he'd been playing multiple accounts in several tournaments at PokerStars. * We confiscated the money that he won illicitly. * We closed his accounts and banned him from PokerStars. * We are returning the money he won illicitly to players who were harmed by his actions in those same tournaments. Obviously, we don't like doing this, but the evidence was incontrovertible. We will do whatever it takes to keep our games and tournaments clean. Best regards, Lee Jones PokerStars Poker Room Manager [/ QUOTE ] Now, this is the correct response. Once again Pokerstars and Lee Jones show how it should be done. |

my $.02 for ZeeJustin and the board
ZeeJustin, The sun comes up. You made a mistake and I hope you come out OK through it all. I've been in your shoes in some ways and it sucks. But, I hope you can make the best of the situation. I'm not saying it will be a positive event. I doubt it will be. Just make the best of what has happened, because that is all you can do. I made a terrible mistake when I was 19, which I've mentioned a few times in the forum before. I was heavy into the drug scene. Most people I knew were 'doing it.' No one was getting in trouble for it. I, and my acquaintences, didn't think much trouble would result if we did get caught. No one was being hurt by what we were doing. Well.... I got caught. I was breaking the law. I thought then, and still think, that the laws are/were stupid. However, that gives me no right to not obide by those laws. It turned out to be a big deal. Through months of legal battles/negotiations, I was fortunate enough to receive only a 3 years sentence in the department of corrections for a possession charge. (The time served was much less as I was a first-time, non-violent offender who received good-time credit though I did violate prison rules... yeah, nothing about prison is logical.) At the time, I was studying to become a high school teacher. Good luck with that. Decisions at 19 can bar one permanently from a chosen field. I moved into a different field when I tried to put my life back on track. I earned numerous degrees from a major university in a prestigious program (one which is consistently rated as tops in the country), but I still could not find employment. Once a felon, always a felon. Luckily, poker exists and I was still able to find my niche and make a few dollars. Today, I live a different, but still very good life. Many avenues were blocked, but, luckily, this is a land of opportunity. ZeeJustin, I hope you can see some parallels. You're 19 and it's both every bit as important and not nearly as important as you think. You broke the rules, whether you think they are 'right' or not. This will take months to sort out and will always be crawling somewhere around in your mind. Try to make the best of it. Don't let it bring you down. Remember, most people that achieve great things go through a few monumental failures. A lapse of judgment at 19, though wrong, is not that bad if you learn from it. I've always respected your posts here on 2p2 and you have a great mind for this game. I'm not a fan of your cheating. I wish you luck in wherever you go and whatever you do. Peace to the board, Unfortunately, cheating goes hand-in-hand with poker. I've seen it live. I've seen it online. I heard about even more. Some stories are surely exaggerations. Others, surely are not. I view it as my responsibility to stop cheating in all forms and guises. It is the most destructive element attached to poker today. It's enough to bring down the games that have gave me such a nice lifestyle. When I play poker live, I often ask if people (fish mainly) play online. The number one reason most people don't is that they are afraid they are being cheated online. How do I convince a player that they aren't being cheated when common sense shows that it is so easy? Even fish realize how easy it is to share hole cards. Even fish know that bots might exist. Even fish know that players have software that helps them make decisions. I've never heard anyone that was scared of multi-accounting. The cheating is out there and it will keep the fish from joining the games. There are plenty of businesses competing for discretionary income; whose going to waste money on a rigged game? Duh.... I know I'm being cheated, but still find the games +ev. I knew multi-accounting existed. The edge is big for the reasons mentioned previously. I will just add that it will lead to more of the prize pool being distributed to 'pros' who will not donk it off in the ring games I play like the 'fish' that make a lucky, big score in an online tourney. I know it's been estimated that 'pros' have an ev of 3X plus their buy-in for large entry tourneys. Assuming only 2X, for every entry the 'pros' are eating up one donkey's entry fee. I know of people who claim to use programs such as calculatempro as a baseline to help them make decisions when playing. How fair is that? How tough would it be for someone to turn this into a bot? My rudimentary computer knowledge makes me think it isn't that hard. Just last month, a program was available for free on this forum that told players what to do from a KillPhil viewpoint in an sng. To make this a functional bot, one would only need to read the data off their party table, enter it into the program, and then execute the advice given. While these programs might not beat me or most good players, they are enough to dry up the games and make it very hard to overcome the rake. I frankly moved into 6max, because I think it's harder to 'program' a winning strategy there. We all know people who have tried to share hole cards with varying success. I've caught colluders at my tables and successfully turned them in. I can only wonder how many I missed? Many of these things are publicly outed, imagine what 'smart' cheats are doing that we don't hear about. It frankly wouldn't surprise me if some people have 'cracked' the RNGs or the encrypted data sent to other players at a table. I'm not saying it's happening, but it wouldn't surprise me. I continue to play online despite the cheating, because I make money. When and if the situation changes, I'll have to go elsewhere. I do everything in my power to protect the integrity of the games I play in, the place where I make my living. I hope other 2p2ers do the same. Also, I'm not surprised, but still absolutely ashamed at how bad pokersites are at protecting the integrity of their games. I salute the retroactive steps taken, but this stuff should've been caught and dealt with a long time ago. Please, please, please stop the blatant cheaters. *FYI: I use pokertracker and pokerace. I think this is acceptable based on the T&Cs and enforcement by pokersites. I have not engaged in and actively discourage any notion of cheating. |
