You have to do "vanity" searches when guys like Mr. Wookie are spreading rumors about you around here. [/ QUOTE ] LOL. Think about that sentence and its implications. I need not add more. |

--Do you think that there is intelligent life elsewhere in the Universe? Again tough to say. I think that even if there is, we'll probably never find it. [/ QUOTE ] WTF ... everyone knows that Phil Ivey is extraterrestrial. He's definitely not human. You can find him in Vegas. Playing poker, of all things ... I suspect that a couple of other players are ET, but I keep it to myself for now. And oh, of course, Condoleezza Rice. |

The Wynn serves Fat Tire ONLY in the poker room. I don't know why. I suppose it's because we're the only people who deserve it.
My nomination for the well, since he wasn't mentioned (and I'm sure it was an oversight) is Davelin. And it doesent rhyme with javelin. |

I just bet $1300 on Notre Dame (-6.5) vs. Georgia Tech Good bet? Do I have a gambling problem? [/ QUOTE ] As much as I luv the wreck (alma mater)... I think this is a good bet, even on the road. Brady Quinn is the real deal and ND should make some waves this year. BTW, the Miami v FSU game will rock like always to get the season started and my Canes are gonna whoop em goot! |

--have you ever given or recieved coaching?
I've coached a few players. I've never hired a coach, but I'd consider it after getting some experience at 10/20. I'd recommend it if you get the right people in. Sometimes coached sessions can be very productive. --what in your opinion is the best methodology for the administration of coaching and who is the best coaching value you know of? I really like sweat sessions as far as giving coaching. I like the immediate interaction and discussion, and I like that you don't get to choose what hands you have the coach look at. For hired session reviews and such, people tend to pick sessions where they ran bad, or perhaps even ran good. I like that a sweat session is truly random. I don't get a coach to find problems I know I have. I get a coach to find problems I didn't know I had, and those tend to crop up when I'm not looking for them. I can't comment on who's the best coaching value, because I haven't hired multiple coaches for comparison. from my own experience any paid coaching that just consists of once facet (IE sweat -or- review -or- phone calls)had better come from someone with remarkable poker insight and teaching abilities to be worth the money. alternatively, coaching session that consist of a combination of facets tend to live up the cost much more quickly. --if you were forced to learn a non holdem game starting tomorrow, what would it be and what stakes would you strive to play for? I'd probably take up Omaha, because I don't really like Stud. I'd pick pot limit, I suppose, because limit is pretty stupid for Omaha. I'd consider a game like Crazy Pineapple or TDL, but those aren't as universally available at many sites. My ultimate goal would be somewhere like in NL - 3/6 to 5/10 blinds. I'm considering doing some serious focus on either pot limit holdem, pot limit omaha 8, or headsup limit holdem myself. I just wonder how much I'm missing out on by not considering stud, razz, or some draw game. --how far up in limit holdem do you think you'll go before deciding to quit climing and start spreading out? Probably 20/40, but maybe 30/60. I just don't have much desire to play in the 100/200 game. Call me a wimp, but I'm just too risk averse to have that much money flying around. I've read around here that in limit holdem 5/10 is the "wall" and that at 10/20 the games require a significant step up in skill to negotiate. I think I'll end up getting to the 10 game, then really focusing on branching out. --assume you're learning a new form of poker (say razz). Would you learn the game quicker with a book of fundamentals and a lot of headsup play plus coaching, or a book of fundamentals and a lot of full ring play plus posting? That's a really tough question. I've always considered that if I was going to really teach someone LHE from scratch, I'd start them with HU play. I haven't tried it, though. I'd probably become competent faster with a book and full ring play, but I'd probably become an expert faster with HU play. I recently sat down a limit omaha headsup tourney by accident. I won the thing, but in that one tourney (vs what seemed like a competent player) I learned all kinds of stuff about the mechanics of the game. I'm pretty convinced that when the time does come for me to branch out that I'll go the headsup/coaching route. |

[/ QUOTE ] I can only assume that you're joking because no one smart enough to type could honestly think you were pointing out anything resembling irony. What's up with the "Do you see why" virus around here? Everyone seems to get off on writing awkwardly esoteric posts where function follows form. |

I obviously haven't read these forums since we used to talk =P (or since I used to go in the IRC #sstakes channel).
