[ QUOTE ]
For all he knows I'm talking to my friend about the San Francisco Giants being the most awesome baseball team on the planet. [/ QUOTE ] No, he KNOWS that's not what you're talking about. NOBODY would talk about THAT. [ QUOTE ] If me and my friend knew Algonquian, would talking in the table chat be more acceptable? So the dude sees two people having a conversation, but has no idea what's going on in it. Is that really any different? [/ QUOTE ] Actually, every American casino I've ever been to had an "English only" rule in place at the table. If people start talking in Spanish, or French, or what-have-you, either another player or the dealer will instruct them to speak in English only while at the table. Nonetheless, I think online play is fundamentally different, and as long as you're not discussing your hands while the game is in play I see nothing wrong with this. If you were to step away from a live table to go to the bathroom, you could freely talk to your friend about your opponents. This strikes me as similar (except that boys don't go potty together). |

[ QUOTE ]
It's different doing it in IRC because the other guy doesn't know you're doing it. Talking strategy at a live game, the guy can decide to leave the game, or at least he can hear that you're talking about him and what you're saying perhaps. Players talking via IRC about others' play online = unethical. It's not like a huge violation, but I wouldn't do it. [/ QUOTE ] I think this is my first post in this forum, but this is quote is just absurd. A great way to get better as a player is to participate in the IRC channels, where people are constantly throwing around hands and giving each other advice. This is in no way unethical. |

[/ QUOTE ] Umm, it's different when you're both at the table with that person and both still playing with the target. I'm not suggesting that reviewing hands is wrong. Whatever. I'm sure y'all cheat on your taxes too and feel proud of it |

Think about it this way :
Imagine you're playing 100/200 NL three handed. No one is chatting at the poker site. You later find out your two opponents are good friends and were talking to each other on IRC while playing with you. You think that's perfectly fine? You'd play with them again? |

[/ QUOTE ] THIS IS WAR, I AM RETURNING TO FULL TILT [ QUOTE ] Actually, every American casino I've ever been to had an "English only" rule in place at the table. If people start talking in Spanish, or French, or what-have-you, either another player or the dealer will instruct them to speak in English only while at the table. [/ QUOTE ] Same here; I was referring to online though, where people talk in all kinds of languages. Plus if I just said non-descript things like "dude in seat 2" in Algonquian homeboy would never know I was talking about him. [ QUOTE ] Imagine you're playing 100/200 NL three handed. No one is chatting at the poker site. You later find out your two opponents are good friends and were talking to each other on IRC while playing with you. You think that's perfectly fine? You'd play with them again? [/ QUOTE ] I would be suspicious and I probably wouldn't play with them again. That said, I wouldn't have known what they were talking about, and I would think it was possible they're colluding. In this case, the player was chilling in IRC and watching everything we said, and knew that we weren't colluding. I don't think exchanging PA HUD stats and talking about hand strategy in a non-colluding manner away from the table is unethical, just like I don't think telling my friend sitting next to me at a live game that I picked up a tell on a dude across the table (while he's in the bathroom, or whatever, and doesn't know) is unethical. |

Not against terms and conditions, but I think it is very unethical. |

So I was taking the online reaction test where my average time was ~0.15 seconds, and the poker window popped up just in time for my click to call the all in.
