I would advise everyone not too take all thats been said in that article so literally. I think you need to look at the bigger picture here. It isnt about the specific board. It isnt about the specific pre-flop raise. It is about how the game is entirely connected. That you have to have plan before you are going to see a flop. What is your action on a blank turn? On a scary turn? And how do I get to the point that I want to be?
Its all in the big picture ! The book has drawn my attention already |

I've figured out that what is impeding my winrate the most is a combination of 2 things:
1) scared money 2) lack of respect for money If I play 100nl for a week, 50nl seems uber-easy. I'm not afraid to play for stacks as often. |

[ QUOTE ] I never quite understand this. If you are manipulating the pot beforehand to make yourself commited on the turn you are deciding beforehand that you are going t get all in no matter what. If you decide this then what does it matter what line you use to get there? [/ QUOTE ] close. you're manipulating the pot preflop to make commitment easier, either by making it profitable to get all-in against opponent(s)' likely range or by avoiding some of the tough commitment decisions. doesn't work all the time, but it can really hope hone your thinking and play. also, it's great for adjusting to deep or short stack sizes -- it works with any stack. once you hit your hand you then reevaluate and decide whether it's good to get all-in. however, if you set it up right preflop, you'll say "yes" more often and can also target what you want the SPR to be to maximize your earn in all-in situations. bah too complicated to get into her I don't type fats enough. can't wait for you to read it! [/ QUOTE ] I understand the concept that is underlying this article, or at least ithink so, my problem is the example you used. I very well understand that a 6bb raise preflop makes it easier for us to commit the only problem is that we canīt just raise 6bb with hands that we want to comit ourselves with and raise 3bb with hands that are too weak. My question is here how do you balance this play? would you start raising 6bb with 89ss from utg from time to time? |

I think you are missing the underlying concept behind the article and taking it a little to literally. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe you could enlighten us? People saying 'ignore the specific hand focus on the concepts' seem to be ignoring the fact that a) the authors argue from the particular to the general in this article and b) have specifically chosen this hand to illustrate their points, so digesting the details of the hand properly seems important. That said, getting into a debate about variable raise sizing is off the topic - that wasn't what the article was intended to discuss. I do heartily approve of the general points about managing stack-to-pot ratios, but that's pretty standard isn't it??? Anyway it's probably fruitless to discuss this any more till the whole book comes out and we can read the other 98% on this topic. Matt, thanks again for engaging with us on this topic. |
