Could anyone worse have won? Am I really off here? I just don't see this guy attracting ANYONE new to the game. [/ QUOTE ] As I have stated previously, it is too early ... it depends on how ESPN spins. So far, so good ... here is the ESPN title of the article reporting on Gold's win: Gold rush: Bluff nets Gold $12 million WSOP win Let's hope they play up all his bluffing so that all the donks think that the way to win is bluff, bluff, bluff. See how this can work out for us? NCAces |

[ QUOTE ]
So. Before the ME began, I had a list of people I hoped would win the WSOP, obviously speaking from a "Good for the game" point of view. I wanted a woman to win. I wanted a teenager to win. I wanted someone good looking to win. I wanted a poker celebrity to win. I wanted a poker pro celebrity to win. I wanted a complete retard to win. Here's what I didn't want to win: Anyone old Anyone who didn't speak english Anyone who didn't want to represent the game Anyone rich Anyone who represented themself very poorly at the table Anyone who would cause "average people" to dislike them at the table. Jamie Gold is middle aged. I think an [censored] at the table. Nobody has ever heard of him. He's not good looking. He's not a chick. He doesn't want to represent the game(ala Raymer). Could anyone worse have won? Am I really off here? I just don't see this guy attracting ANYONE new to the game. [/ QUOTE ] How could a teenager win - with false ID? Your categories are not mutually exclusive - aren't poker celebrities rich? Does Phil Helmuth represent himself well at the table? What has english speaking got to do with it? Represent the game? Poker is about good players and sites sucking the life out of bad players. Presumably you mean "misrepresent". So after this nonsense you then point out how Jamie Gold doesn't meet your criteria - we can all read. We know he doesn't because no one can. The only purpose of this post is to tell this forum why you don't like Jamie Gold. Why do you think that is important? I haven't been able to read the entire thread so apologies if you have already addressed any of these points. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] i love Jamie Gold as the new WSOP World Champion if only because his win serves as a big "F U" to all the people who think that poker should be the exclusive domain of "internet whiz-kids" and "name poker pros" and that anyone who doesn't fall into either category MUST be a know-nothing "donk". [/ QUOTE ] Raymer is such a donk. [/ QUOTE ] if Raymer wasn't already a respected 2p2'er before his win, you don't think this forum would have found reasons to crucify him? i'm sure his looks/weight, reptile glasses, and the fact that he sucked out several times on his way to the championship would have been more than enough fodder for the haters here. [/ QUOTE ]agreed. I could easily see many people here bashing him for wearing "ridiculous glasses". |

I wanted a woman to win. -- Barbara Enright got the closest getting knocked out early at the final table. No woman has come close.
I wanted a teenager to win. -- Would create big problems when it was discovered he used a fake ID. I wanted someone good looking to win. -- No offense to 4 of the last 5 winners, but this is hardly a requirement. I wanted a poker celebrity to win. -- You got a Hollywood talent agent, isn't that good enough. I wanted a poker pro celebrity to win. -- see above. I wanted a complete retard to win. -- Not going to happen. Winner may not be a known pro, but is not going to be dumb. Varkonyi is an MIT graduate, Furlong a successful businessman rich/donk like Gold. Someone who isn't smart does not have a chance. |

What a thread.
So the deleted post was from the new champ? The ad campaign is obvious: The Hustler, The Ringer, The Champion (but his look throughout this tourney isn't exactly what Bodog conjures up) Perhaps ther is a pillow-fight shot with him from the convention. And, I'm 40 and I will admit that I recently realized that I am middle-aged. Here is my definition: That age at which you are responsible (in some manner) for taking care of both the generation above you and that below you) Finally, I thought Moneymaker was 27 when he won.... |

i think he will be good for the game because of all the donkeys who will watch the FT on tv and watch him bet 32o on a JJQQ board or whatever into two players. people love to be the crazy aggro donkeys and watching this type of poker from a rich cocky guy will spark their interest.
however, i not think he was the best winner for the game. the games may become more fishy now, but poker will not explode as much as it could have with a differnt winner. um, i think that makes sense |

he's 36, that's not middle aged.
BTW how were you expecting a teenager to win? Would it be good for someone to win and then be disqualified? |
