Windows starts a bunch of unnecessary services on startup by default. They are running all the time and waste your resources.
Many of them can safely disabled. There used to be a website at blackviper.com with good instructions on what you can safely disable. Unfortunately that site isn't up anymore. You can also go into the task manager and set the priority to below normal. It will take a little longer for imports, but they won't tie up the processor. Unfortunately I think you'd have to do this each time you play.

I have read postgresql is alot better then using access. Wich is PT's ddefault. I tried downloading it but it didn't work on my comp for some reason. If you are not using postgresql, I suggest giving it a try.

I have a fairly powerful computer, but certain sites (Absolute) combined with Autorate will lock the computer if the import starts happening at the same time you need to act on your hand. Turn off Autorate and the problem goes away. Just periodically turn it on to update the players at your table, then turn it back off. |
