[ QUOTE ]
You talked about moving from full ring to short-handed. I was wondering how your play in terms of number of hands played changed? You mention a lot about playing better hands then your opposition, and obviously you still did this short-handed. But what hands did you start to incorporate six handed that you wouldn't generally have played in a full ring? Was it more a matter of position and playing it, then it was playing more hands? Thanks. [/ QUOTE ] Honestly, I don't really feel qualified to answer questions on making the switch from full table to 6-max or shorter. I've only been at it for a little while now. Maybe in a month I'll have a better understanding of some of the nuances. I do know the biggest thing at first is that you just have to sit down and do it. For me, and I've heard other players express the same thing, there's a psychological thing about starting up shorthanded. A leariness or a fear or whatever. That's the first hurdle to clear. And I don't know any other way to overcome that except to recognize your wariness and then play thru it at short handed tables. |

Can't emphasize this enough. If you get bad beat, type in lol or nice play and move on. You do not want to BERATE the bad player and awaken him into playing better or to BERATE him so that he ends up leaving.
I see this happen so much--even by respected posters of this forum--that I think it should be stickied and read by all of us each day . |

[/ QUOTE ] Nice post to the OP. I follow those same guidelines for the most part. Of course a few more things mixed in too. As far a berating the fish. I hate this. Oftentimes I find myself trying to defend the fish in order to get the titled person to set their sights on me, which I want worse players to do. There have been a few times though that I played while I was drinking and got out of line with the fishies. Which is why I no longer drink hard liquor when playing. Maybe a beer or two. |

where did you play in the freeroll [/ QUOTE ] Pokerhost. But that was a year ago and I don't think they have that same freeroll, which I think was a nightly $500. |

[/ QUOTE ] This advice is so overrated. I generally don't berate players because most of the times I just don't care. If it makes me feel better to call some guy a *bleep* moron, I'll do it and move on (although I don't think I've ever done it just because someone outdrew me in a pot, it generally means the guy has been a prick at the table for some time). At small stakes people suck because they suck, not because they're not caring or all other reasons authors generally use to give this advice. Not berating other players should have a lot more to do with you not wanting be an idiot than worrying about EV. |

Well, being this thread is back at the moment, I can give an update. I had that $44 and never added outside money to it. I played thru the 25's and 50's until I had about 15 buy-ins for NL100 and then moved up there again. I also dabbled one or two levels higher from time to time. I withdrew $1K since I made the first post in this thread and at the moment have 34 buy-ins in my roll at NL100.
I started playing other sites, including for the first time Party. I started 6m and wasn't running well and so switched back to full ring and started running consistently well. I've been playing a little 6m, but have trouble when I play more than 2 tables. Currently, I am able to 4-table full ring NL100 with no difficulties, so have been spending alot of time doing that. I also added a NL200 table and so we will see how things go at that level. |

AJ this is an incredible post and something I wish I had come across a few days ago. This is definately advice to take to heart at such small stakes. I think I am a major sufferer of FPS and need to focus on ABC/TAG poker.

Thanks for bumping this thread. I'm getting better at #3, but seriously need to follow #2 -- most of the gains I made in the past week were flushed away by bluffs that work great in tournaments but not NL25.

Nice post, but I think ace high is overrated in six-max SSNL, just IMO. It leads to some tricky decisions, but can be made much easier in position.
