But surely the more critical question is - is he a POKER player?

[/ QUOTE ]

He's not a poker player.

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you sure? I heard he's a poker player with a bankroll of over one million dollars.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've heard that too.

Andy Beal is a businessman based out of Dallas, Texas. He's not a billionaire, but is reportedly worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The bank he owns, Beal Bank, is private so his exact net worth is not known. He's not a professional poker player, but he does like to play high stakes limit heads up--normally 20,000/40,000 to 50,000/100,00 but up to 100,000/200,000. He plays against a group of the top pros in Vegas who combine their bankroll to play against him. It's estimated that he has lost about $50 million to them (Brunson, Harman, Forest, etc.). It was documented in a recent book by Michael Craig. I think it's titled The Banker, Professor, and Suicide King.

So are you saying his bankroll is at least $1 million?

He doesn't have a bankroll. FWIW another reason you might not see him on forbes list is that everyone on that list submits information on their holdings that forbes verifies to put them on there. If you don't submit all they can go by is public filings.

I don't think I would deposit money into a bank that is privately owned by someone who is losing millions at poker.

It's clearly time for an "Andy Beal is BUSTO" thread.
