The article wasn't that bad. You all are acting like Sexton was advocating playing to cash in most situations, but he acknowledges that the general strategy should be "play to win" but that deviating from that strategy on the bubble can sometimes be correct when you have a very short stack. This advice is more applicable to big live tournaments, where the initial bubble is steep but payouts after that increase at a fairly flat rate until the final table.
