Also I don't think anyone is saying he plays for 6 years. I think that's just them giving him what he asks for.

For perspective, the Broncos signed Travis Henry for 6 years with $12 million guaranteed and that guy is 30 years old and has literally no chance to play 6 seasons.

Uhhh... so much wear and tear already?

You know there are 10 RBs in the league that have DOUBLE the career carries of LJ, right? Including LT who has well over twice as many.

[/ QUOTE ]

You do realize he broke the record for carries, right. You do realize the guy who broke it before him played (Jamal Anderson) only a couple hundred more carries. It's not a big deal to have a ton of carries throughtout your career, he just paid a huge price last year by dominating the carries on his team.

The concern is that his carries came over a very short span of time, much like how pitchers who have individual counts > 120 are much more susceptible to injury than pitchers who have higher average counts but lower peaks.

I guess in the NFL it's different, though. Nothing is guaranteed, so I guess the deal isn't that bad. If he's washed up in 3 years they can just release him, right? I'm not sure exactly how it works.

^^kc, yea, they can get rid of his contract for the most part, so that's partially y players want so much in gaurantees and bonus money, so they don't get scrued later, so many contracts are ridic long, but doubt they get fulfilled, maybe reworked if even that...

12 million <<<<< 25 million.

Everything is about guaranteed money in the NFL, the Broncos can run him for 3 years for 4 million/per, whereas after LJ breaks down in 3 years (or less), KC is paying him 8 million/per.

Henry<<<<<<<<<LJ

I know quite well the history of following up years like that. However, ppl saying a lot of carries over time doesn't matter are wrong. That can be every bit as bad for a guy's prospects if you look at the histories.

I'm all over the LJ is an injury-risk bandwagon. At the same time we can't lose sight of how young this guy is in terms of career carries. Even going back to college he barely had any.

Sorta hijack related to LJ: We all know that Tomlinson being called "LT" is sorta bull due to Lawrence Taylor's rightful ownership to that nickname. In Larry Johnson's case, is "LJ" OK since he shares the exact name with the previous holder of that nickname?

It has nothing to do with the name of the previous, and everything to do with how good they were. Besides, Larry Johnson was Grandmama, isn't that enough?
