Saw this today, and the teams look pretty intriguing.

From DN's blog:

3 man scramble:

Dewey Tomko, Doyle Brunson, ?

[/ QUOTE ]

The third in that I'm guessing might be Hilbert 'Hillstreet' Shirey.

Super nice guy, super good poker player and golfer.

2 man best ball:

John Hanson, Mickey Appleman
(I forget the last two pairings)

The first (and only) time I saw Appleman on TV, I seriously thought he was a she-male.

Is he any good at Poker?

[/ QUOTE ]
I don't even think he has to be good at poker, b/c he's one of the most successful sports bettors of all time. Search Cardplayer's archives for a good interview with him within the last year.

I've got a VIP pass for the event and will be blogging about it. If nothing else, I'll be posting at the end of each day.

Sweeeeeet.

If the ESPN producers are smart (who knows?), they'll follow the side action heavily. Let's hope so.

Is the Janet Jones, Wayne Gretzky's wife? If that's true she really is a sick degenerate gambler.

Mickey Appleman was interviewed/profiled in Al Alvarez's masterpiece about the 1981 WSOP, "The Biggest Game in Town". He has four bracelets (first in 1980, most recent in 2003) and according to his Wikipedia page has won over $1.5M in tournament play alone.

Mickey Appleman's Wikipedia entry.

Mickey Appleman's Hendon Mob profile

So yeah, he's OK.

[/ QUOTE ]

$1.5 million in 30 years is $50,000/year and thats before taxes AND before buy-ins. Live winnings never take into consideration the cost of buyins. He could very easily be a loser in tournaments.
